2017 Presidents Cup Friday foursomes https://www.presidentscup.com/tee-times.html
With the USA taking a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead after Thursday's foursomes, the game changes to fourballs today ( each player plays his own ball, lowest score counts) and the power and depth of the USA team is obvious right from the start. The pairings and analysis below, with Adam Hadwin making his debut... and a tough one..
Match 1
Adam Hadwin / Hideki Matsuyama vs Jordan Spieth/ Patrick Reed
Analysis: Spieth and Reed are huge favourites for a point here for obvious reasons, not to mention their inspired play at the Ryder Cup. So with nothing to lose Adam and Hideki may as well let it all hang out. Hideki has beaten everyone in this field when he is on form and Adam has had a great year and putting is the strength of his game.
Full point to USA.
Match 2
Louis Oosthuizen/ Branden Grace vs Rickie Fowler / Justin Thomas
Analysis: The heavyweight match of the day, but until someone beats the South Africans (5-0 in 2015, 3-1 winners yesterday), I am looking for a full point here again despite the sparkling resumes on the USA side.
Point Internationals
Match 3
Marc Leishman/ Jason Day vs Kevin Kisner / Phil Mickelson
Analysis: This is a replay of yesterday's foursomes where the points were halved. There was nothing between the teams, so let's call it a draw again, although I reiterate, Jason Day hasn't won a match in the last 2 events and he simply has to step up to the plate, Yesterday was a start.
Match halved
Match 4
Anirban Lahiri / Charl Schwartzel vs Charlie Hoffman / Kevin Chappell
Analysis : The US pair are very experienced but in fact are making their debuts for their country, while Charl and 30 year old captains pick, India's Anirban have more International play under their belts.. I expect a scrappy match. Schwartzel got dusted 6&4 yesterday but by a much better pair (Thomas/ Fowler)
Tough to pick a clear winner. Match halved
Match 5
Jhonatten Vegas / Adam Scott vs Brooks Keopka / Dustin Johnson
Analysis : Well it's bombs away with these 4 huge hitters, but come on, Brooks and DJ are in way better form right now.
