Tuesday Notes.. List of Laureus World Sports Award winners..

*Canucks down under   The LPGA kicks off it's 2012 year this week at Royal Melbourne, scene of the Presidents Cup, for the Australian Open.  Rebecca Lee-Bentham, Stepanie Sherlock and Lorie Kane are in the field

*Holes in One  Daniel Chopra like so many European tour players has played all around the world on several tours, this week he is at Pebble Beach and yesterday he made two aces in a practice round at Pebble Beach Golf Links .

Playing with rookie Richard H. Lee, Chopra aced the postage stamp par-3 seventh hole before recording another 1 at the 17th hole. Chopra used a 50-degree wedge from 104 yards on the seventh, then struck again with a 7-iron from 176 yards at No. 17. Apparently the chances of two holes-in-one in a round are one in 64 million.
*Levin's loss, Stanley's gain.. Felt bad for our 2007 Canadian tour Order of Merit winner Spencer Levin " I gave it away, simple as that. You have a six-shot lead and lose, you gave it away. when he blew his 6 shot lead in Phoenix on Sunday, but under the category of "every cloud has a silver lining" the irony of Kyle Stanley of all people winning it was simply poetic justice.
Stanley closed with a bogey-free 6-under 65, holing a four-foot par putt on the par-4 18th to finish at 15-under 269. He earned $1,098,000 for his first PGA Tour title. He is now No. 52 in the Official World Golf Ranking improving 35 spots in the ranking with his win at TPC Scottsdale, securing a spot in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, as well as a ticket to the Masters. He began the year at 184th in the ranking, but in the last two weeks, has improved 98 places.

*Golfing altercations.. I have cringed at times on the golf course with things one of my partners has done. I remember one of our more volatile guys up at Spring Lakes who had tired of the slow play group in front, chasing down the fairway after them as all 4 took turns fishing balls out of a strategically place pond. They happened to be Asian which added fuel to his fire.. won't print what was said but it fell short of blows..

Not so recently in Texas where a 48-year-old Texas man is claiming he may lose his right leg after an argument on a golf course. Jan. 27 at the Golf Club at the Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake in Fort Worth, Clay Carpenter, said he was stabbed in the leg with the shaft of a broken golf club. He suffered a punctured femoral artery, resulting in serious blood loss. He was in a threesome who asked to play through the foursome ahead of them because of their pace of play.

The resulting verbal altercation turned physical, resulting in a fight between Carpenter and a member of the foursome. As the two scuffled on the ground, Carpenter said, another man in the foursome then used a broken golf club as a weapon to stab the victim twice in the leg with the shaft.

*Potty mouth scolded by mum.. Lee Westwood was caught on television swearing after his tee shot on the 16th in Qatar on Sunday and the first person to call him on it was his mother. After his 3-under 69 put him in a tie for 12th, he said his mother heard the profanity and suggested he apologize.

My mum was the first person on the phone, and she said, you might want to apologize,” said Westwood, who went on to birdie the 16th. Westwood promptly turned to Twitter to do just that.“Sorry about swearing on the 16th tee. Came off like a rocket and thought it was going further! Wash my mouth out! Perils of live tv,” Westwood tweeted.

*New world rankings....click here for official world rankings  http://www.officialworldgolfranking.com/rankings/default.sps?region=world

Qatar Masters champion Paul Lawrie jumped into the world top 50 for the first time since July 2003. Lawrie improved 31 places to No. 47 in the ranking. The 1999 Open champion is in position to make the Masters by finishing in the top 50 on the ladder.

John Daly"s 4th place finish in Qatar was his best result since the 2009 Italian Open. He has now moved up the world ranking, to No. 309, an increase of 234 spots.

Qatar runner-up Jason Day improved three spots to No. 7. His move forced Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Dustin Johnson down one position each. Luke Donald continues to lead Rory McIlroy, but now by 1.768 points.

Tiger Woods, who will make his 2012 PGA Tour season debut this week at Pebble Beach, dropped one spot to No. 18
