McIlroy's third straight 67 just one off lead in Turkey

Watching this opening playoff event of the Race to Dubai I keep getting the feeling Rory McIlroy is chugging along in 3rd gear, just waiting for him to pop the clutch and roar off in 4th.

His new driver isn't at it's best, his wedges aren't either, the new ball and all it's spin are't completely under his control, yet here he is after three rounds of 67 at -15, just a shot behind Jaco Van Zyl (70) and 2013 winner Victor Dubuisson (67) -16.

McIlroy did hit top gear briefly after an unbelievable second shot, a towering 5 iron up and over the trees to inside three feet on the par five 13th to make an eagle then a 25-foot putt for birdie at the 14th to pick up 3 shots to get to -14 within one of the lead

I'd be remiss to leave out the Thai birdie machine Kiradech Aphibarnrat (66) who is also at -15 and is after his third win of the season after victories at the Shenzhen International and Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play, and in fact he was in the lead but a bogey on the last saw him slip back to -15 .

So it's all set for a grandstand finish tomorrow, my money is on McIlroy..
