Thomas breaks course record to lead in sweltering Kuala Lumpur

PGA Tour CIMB Classic leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/cimb-classic/leaderboard.html

Kuala Lumpur is very hot and humid at this time of year, you are going to be hot and sweaty when you are outside, and for some who have never been in that part of the world it can be oppressive, especially if you are jet lagged..

All of those describe the condition of 22 year old phenom Justin Thomas who has just polished off a round that had 59 written all over it, with an eagle and nine birdies and a brand new course-record 61 at this CIMB Classic on Friday good for a 1 shot lead over Brendan Steele (63) at -15 129 as the  pro's continue to torch the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club

"I never have been to this part of the world before and my body is still adjusting. Today was a little better. I even slept in, until 5.30 a.m."

That made his score even more remarkable and in fact he had done all the hard work and required birdies on two of the last three holes, but as always 59 is elusive, which is why only 6 guys have managed it.

First-round leader Scott Piercy who set the course record on Thursday with 62 had a 69 T3, two shots behind, along with Spencer Levin (64), and Hideki Matsuyama (66)

There are some big names in this field, for example Adam Scott is at -10 under, and course specialist, two-time defending champion Ryan Moore at -8. Sergio Garcia shot 67 -8 under, Paul Casey (69) and Henrik Stenson (67) -7, Padraig Harrington (72) -4 under, and world traveller Ernie Els (69) is at -3.

David Hearn got in on the low scoring and is T12 70 65 -9, Nick Taylor is T66 74 70 E
