Grillo wins the Fry's.com Open in a playoff..

PGA Tour Fry's.com Open final leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/frys-com-open/leaderboard.html

This version of the Fry's.com Open was in doubt right until the final hole as nine players had at least a share of the lead on Sunday including Brendan Steele who led all week and was holing putts and playing with great confidence until he let it all get away closing with five bogeys for a 76 to fall out of contention.

Sadly so did Graham DeLaet who finished at -7 after a 77. The winner is no surprise to me as those who follow me here and on the air know I've been touting Tony Finau and Emiliano Grillo as two to watch and it was the young Argentinian Grillo who beat Kevin Na with a birdie 4 on the 2nd playoff hole for his first PGA Tour win in his rookie year debut. He cemented his card when he won the Web.com Tour Championship two weeks ago.

His win was not without a lot of drama. Do you remember earlier this year when he played in the Puerto Rico Open and missed a little 3 footer for the win then lost it in a playoff. Well he had that same 3 footer for the win in the first playoff hole yesterday and missed it as well !

On the next hole he drove into the fairway bunker, but Na opened the door for him by hooking his driver from the fairway behind the trees ending up with bogey while Grillo hit a great shot out of the trap to 12 feet which sealed the win.

He is at #36 in the world today, and gets to play in the Masters as well as the PGA Championship and other WGC events. He is a graduate of the David Leadbetter golf academy and you may remember him leading the Canadian Open this year after shooting 64 in the first round. He turned pro in 2011 and spent the next four years on the European Tour.

He is only 23, and joins all the other young guns that are the future of golf world wide.

Jason Bohn (70), Justin Thomas (69) and Tyrone Van Aswegen of South Africa (68) all finished one shot out of the playoff and all had their chances to win.
