What a start to the 2016 season for David Hearn !

PGA Tour Shriners Hospitals for Children Open leaderboard  http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/shriners-hospitals-for-children-open/leaderboard.html

With the new season on the PGA Tour already one tournament old with Emiliano Grillo's win in the Napa Valley last week the travelling pack has moved it's dolls and dishes to the bright lights and sunny days of Las Vegas at the TPC Summerlin and what a great start to the season for David Hearn who is part of a four way tie for the lead at -7 64 after the opening round.

Michael Thompson, Mark Hubbard and Tyler Aldridge are tied with Hearn although Aldridge had two holes left when darkness fell in the desert.

Hearn is practising with the regular length putter, but will continue to use the anchored long handle which helped him to his best season ever last year, until the pending ban on anchoring kicks in this coming January. He's 36 now and remember he had five top 25 finishes last year and damn near made history at Glen Abbey, eventually finishing third. He was -4 playing the back nine, made a bogey at the 17th  then played the front nine in -4 finishing with birdies on his final three holes to shoot 64.

The course was playing pretty much perfect as it’s going to get, the greens were great this morning. I think that there’s a reason there’s a lot of good scores on that board. It’s because the course is in such good shape.”

Other Canadian scores : Nick Taylor T16 -5 66, Adam Hadwin T79 -1 70  Graham DeLaet T113 +1 72
