Charlie Wi a 40 year old veteran who has yet to win on the PGA tour shot -3 69 at Spyglass yesterday to get to -15 and lead another journeyman Ken Duke who shot 65 at Monterey -12 by 3 shots but you'd hardly know they were the leaders.
Tiger shot a -5 67 at Pebble Beach to get to -11 4 shots back and Phil Mickelson shot a -2 70 to get into a group at -9. They are paired together and if you listen to the experts, Duke and Wi have little or no chance especially with Dustin Johnson in that group at -9.
Playing the back nine first, the turning point in Tiger's round was at the par 4 13th. After a bogey at 12, he found a fairway bunker at 13, hit out well right of the green into thick rough, but the ball took a lucky bounce, ran down right across the green to a foot away. That bogey turned birdie was the start of 5 in 6 holes, he made another at the 2nd, then parred in for his -5 67.
So today is a TV network dream come true, 2 rabbits in Wi and Duke out front with Tiger and Phil right in front of them, trying to reel them in, along with the likes of Dustin Johnson, Paddy Harrington and Hunter Mahan.
The weather is set to be another cool, breezy, misty day in Carmel Bay, have a good look at Ken Duke and Charlie Wi on the first tee, because you'll hardly see them after that...until of course when and if Tiger and Phil are out of it..

Mike Weir and Matt McQuillan slipped to 78's and did not make the cut. Graham Delaet shot 71 and made the cut but under the complicated top 70 reduce the final round field rule will not get to play, but will get last place money.
