DP World Tour..DS Automotives Italian Open Leaderboard
It was another good "moving day" for Richardson's Wealth's Aaron Cockerill, this time in Italy at the Ryder Cup home on this Greg Simone GC, Rome.
After 2 adventurous rounds at even par 71 71 and back to back bogey's at 2nd and 3rd in round 3, he found his game, reeling off 7 birdies in his last 15 holes with some excellent wedge play and putting to move up 23 spots to T12 heading into Sunday's play at -5.
On a day of low scoring the leaders are Frenchmen Julien Guerrier 66 69 66 -12 and Romaine Langasque 68 72 63 -11 with Polish star Adrian Meronk 68 68 66 -11.
Meronk at a world ranking of 63 is the highest ranked player in this field, rather a sad reflection on the state of the DP World Tour for such a prestigious event on their calendar.
Opinion:
With stars like Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick etal playing for $20,000,000 in designated events on the PGA Tour and former stalwarts like Poulter, Westwood and Garcia finally resigning from the tour they starred on, rather than play 100,000 euro penalties for giving up their glittering legacies for huge sums of guaranteed Saudi money, it's difficult for Keith Pelley and his staff to do much about it, rather than hope the Strategic Alliance provides more incentive down the road.
