DP World Tour : DS Automobiles Italian Open Leaderboard
It's late in the opening day of this DS Automobile Italian Open on the Marco Simone GC, host of this year's Ryder Cup.
Frenchman Matthieu Pavon certainly impressed European Team captain Luke Donald with a 9 birdie barrage -8 63 for the clubhouse lead. He is playing with Aaron Cockerill the first 2 rounds.
Another man from France, Julien Guerrier and veteran Chinese, Ashun Wu are in with 5 66 T2.
The day started steadily for Aaron Cockerill, all pars with a birdie 3 at the par4 5th for -1 34 front nine.
Then all that changed. Par 4 at the10th, bogey with a 3 putt at the short par4 11th, biirdies at par5 12, and par3 13th with a 40 footer. He was T8 at -2
Errant drives at 14 and 15 had him headed in the wrong direction with back to back doubles he was now +2.
However he has been in great form recently and his recovery showed that. A tee ball to 9' at 17, birdie, then after laying up at the par5 18th, he hit a wedge to 5' and made the birdie to rescue the round E 71 T40 as I write.
With the lead at -8 the cut should fall around +2.
WEATHER
It was fairly benign today wind 3-6mph 12*c a bit foggy in the eraly going.
The rest of the week has no rain, temperature warm 26* but the wind picks up 8-12mph and patchy fog will greet the early starters on Friday.
