After watching our beloved Leafs all these years since their last cup in 1967, I'm probably like so many others, not surprised they had the Habs down 3-1, and abetted no doubt with injuries to stars Tavares, Muzzin and Foligno, they couldn't win that 4th,despite 3 cracks at it.
This one didn't hurt much at all in my case, I watched very little COVID hockey this year, as Scottish legendary manager Jock Stein once said, " fitba is nothin' withoot it's fans". That remains true to this day, games became dressed scrimmages played in front of tarpaulins with zero atmosphere, except for TV's piped in noise provided by the hands of a technician hidden in a Sportsnet studio at 777 Jarvis.
Champions Tour: KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship here
Meanwhile Mike Weir was in great shape at the Champions Tour Senior PGA, opening rounds of 68 65 -7 had him in the lead by 4 shots heading into Saturday. Coming off his win earlier in the month at the Regions Insperity, he played and putted very well. However on Saturday, he ran into bogey trouble on this tough Southern Hills course, after a -1 front nine he made a double and 3 bogey's 40 back nine for 74. Sunday brought 4 birdies, but 6 more bogey's +2 72 and a T5 at -1.
Tip of my cap to Alex Cjeka, This guy has been the ultimate journey man all of his golfing life, playing all over the world with little success by way of wins, sinking as low as something called the Outlaw Tour. Monday qualifiers were his milieu, with nary a complaint.
Now 2 straight Champions Tour wins, both majors for goodness sake winning this one by 4 shots with a 68 67 weekend. He has a "home at last"
PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge here.
Adam Hadwin had his best week in a while, T8 66 67 71 70 -6, while Corey Connors was T20 70.67,68 71 -4. Nick Taylor T62, 71 66 71 75 +3 while Mac Hughes missed the cut. Adam moves from #112 to #94 in the world.
Jason Kokrak who broke through a couple of years ago for his first win has been full of confidence ever since "I know now I can beat these guys". Well he fired 65 65 66 70 -14 to beat Texas favourite son Jordan Spieth who slumped to 73 on Sunday after 63 66 66 -12.
LPGA Tour: Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play here.
I mentioned on Friday Brooke Henderson didn't play that badly but lost all 3 of her matches to bow out of the LPGA Match Play down in Vegas.
When it was all said and down the semifinal was a wipe out with Chinese star Shanshan Feng conceding her match to Ariya Jutanugarn 10&8.
Sophia Popov was back in the spotlight after her career changing Women's Open Championship at Royal Troon, and she lost a hard fought finals match 2&1 to American, Ally Ewing who was 6-1-0 on the week.
US Open Tee times: Brooke plays in the first round of the US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco with Lexi Thompson and Patty Tavatanakit this Thursday. All tee times are here
Korn Ferry Tour: Evans Scholars Invitational here
Another great week for Adam Svensson T2 moving him up from 18th to 11th in their season long standings, the top 25 go up to the PGA Tour. Taylor Pendrith has already qualified in 4th spot and he finished T7. Stuart McDonald T10 as he strives too get into the top 75 for the Korn Ferry Tour playoffs.
