PGA Tour Champions Sunday scoreboard here.
If you haven't seen Mike Weir since he began his career on the Champions Tour back in August, you'll have no trouble recognizing him. Hasn't gained a pound, swing and everything look just the same as he was in his prime, once up to #3 in the world when he was winning the Masters back in 2003.
In 7 events his best finish is a T4, his worst score 73 with a scoring average of 70, and yesterday on his super Saturday he had his best with 68,63 -13 to take a 3 shot lead into today's final round of this Dominion Energy Classic.
It rained all night and day on Friday in Richmond Virginia, thus the reason for 36 holes yesterday. "With 36 holes to play I just wanted to get into a good rhythm and I did. I'm super excited, I can't remember the last time I slept on a lead, but it feels good"
He only made one bogey in two rounds, 9 birdies bogey free for his 63, and now a date today with the other lefty, who of course is getting all the publicity, Phil Mickelson 68, 66 is at -10. They will be in the final pairing with Retief Goosen at 12.10pm EST, which won't faze Mike at all, in fact he has a history of rising to those occasions, just remember his stellar record in the Presidents Cup, non more memorable than beating Tiger in singles at Royal Montreal in 2007.
The course is playing long with all the rain so Phil and Retief will be yards ahead of Mike off the tee, however it's station to station golf this week, and Weirsy has it figured out so far better than anyone else.
We all know it's hard to follow a really low score with another,, but remember with the rest of the field charging he is 3 up on Mickelson, 5 ahead of Retief Goosen and Brandt Jobe and 6 ahead of Bernhard Langer.
