They started the world trek that is the European Tour just after last Christmas with the Joburg Open, and nearly 50 tournaments and 27 countries later they just wrapped up the penultimate event back in South Africa at Sun City for the Nedbank Golf Challenge with a Sprinbok victory for Branden Grace, the first South African in 10 years to win this event at home.
18 of 18 greens in regulation, 6 birdies, no bogey's -6 66 -11, Grace won by a shot over Scotsman Scott Jamieson who shot -2 70 -10 total. It was his 8th European Tour win and his first in a year.
This event is presented by Gary Player who told Branden before the round "You're going to win this today, just go out and play the way you can play and you'll be the winner"
Well that's what he did, and after he received a champagne shower from his fellow countryman, he was embraced by the godfather of South African golf, his idol Gary Player who was clearly delighted.
South African soccer fans were in the doldrums after Senegal knocked them out of the World Cup earlier in the week after a replay of a match they had won previously. The match was replayed because the referee was charged with match fixing
Now it's off to Dubai for the DP World Championship, the finale of the Race To Dubai with Tommy Fleetwood clinging to his lead, with Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia and big Jon Rahm right behind him, and everyone will be in Dubai to wrap this 2017 season up.
