Justin Thomas beats Marc Leishman to win first CJ Cup in a playoff during TV blackout

As we talked about yesterday, today's final round at this CJ Cup at Nine Bridges would be a difficult scoring day with the swirling winds and undulating greens, and it was.

In the end Marc Leishman who won the BMW Championship in Chicago last month shot 70 and Justin Thomas birdied the 18th to shoot 72 and tie for the title at -9, so they went to a playoff, however I must tell you we never saw the finale live. Here's what happened.

Both players made 5's at the first playoff hole, the par 5, 586yard, 18th then live coverage stopped.

The Golf Channel ran out of their allotted satellite time, and began showing a replay of the final holes while the second  playoff hole was being completed in real time, and the trophy presented.

Golf Channel technicians scrambled to overcome the disastrous glitch and 15 minutes later they showed us replayed coverage of Leishman hitting his approach into the water resulting in a bogey 6 while Thomas made an easy birdie for his first win of this 2017-18 season.

He won Player of the Year honors with five victories in 2016-17.

Cameron Smith finished alone in third at -8 and Korean Kim Meen-whee was fourth at -6.

Nick Taylor shot +3 75 to end up T23 at -1, while Adam Hadwin finished his week with an E 72, T47 +7.
