American Peter Uihlein shot a -7 65 in the wind on Thursday and followed it up with a 68 early this morning in the worst of the wind again to share the lead on -11 with local lad Brett Rumford who made 8 birdies in the calmer late conditions to shoot 65, and they are a shot ahead of pre tournament favourite Louis Oosthuizen who got hot on the 12th with 5 birdies in 6 holes for a 64, -10 total on the Lake Karrinyup Country Club course in Perth.
Uihlein is playing with a torn tendon in his wrist, but a cortisone injection is enabling him to continue before he will ultimately have to have surgery.
Rumford has had injury problems of his own missing most of last year after having a foot or so of his small intestine removed.
Australian Rhein Gibson is at -9 after a 68, with countryman Jason Scrivener at -8 after a 67. Frenchman Alexander Levy also had a 67 -7 total as he continues to regain the form he showed 2 years ago.
