Hatton, Harding and Arnaus lead BMW PGA Championship at soggy Wentworth.. live scoreboard

 BMW PGA Championship Leaderboard

What a difference a few days make. A five hour drive down the M1 from North Berwick in Scotland to Virginia Water the leafy, wealthy neighbourhood 20 miles from London that is the palatial home of the European Tour and of venerable Wentworth with it's world famous west course, home of the World Match Play for so  many years and now the BMW PGA Championship, the tour's flagship event.

Normally played in May. the move to October sees the parkland trees in full bloom, and with all the rain, very soft, therefore very long.

Round 1 is nearly done as I post this. -6 66 is the low score by England's Tyrrell Hatton, South African Justin Harding and Spain's Adri Arnaus. There are four 67's and seven 68's including Ian Poulter who finished birdie birdie eagle, and Justin Rose.

There is no roll on the fairways although preferred lies are not being offered. With the soft greens you have to look down to a T50th to find someone not under par. It was damp, overcast and cool for the early wave before the sun came out, and I expect the course to dry out and toughen up as the week goes on
