Veteran caddies to join broadcast team...

When Tiger Woods' then caddy Stevie Williams was allowed to be part of the broadcast team back in 2008 at the Kiwi Challenge I thought it was a great idea to get his unique insight so it was no surprise when the news which has been brewing ever since came out yesterday that Jim “Bones” Mackay and John Wood who caddy for Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar will be part of the broadcast team next week during the RSM Classic at Sea Island in Georgia as they will be on-course reporters for key groups during Friday and Saturday rounds

I'd prefer they were miked up while actually caddying, the tour has been experimenting with that and we all know the difference it has made for the TV curling audience, but this should be the next best thing.

As a producer I can tell you there are  lots of guys who are very good at what they do but it doesn't come across on radio or TV unless they are good communicators, good talkers, good story tellers and I'm sure that's why Tommy Roy, the golf producer for NBC Sports and Golf Channel has selected them.

Veteran player and on course broadcaster Roger Maltbie will be coaching them and they will have a dress rehearsal Thursday morning.
