Jones leads, Spieth in contention at Australian Open

Emirates Australian Open leaderboard http://www.ausopengolf.com/scores

Matt Jones was born in Sydney, lives in Texas and at 35 has golfed all around the world, but has never won his national championship, but after a -3 68 -7 total he is halfway to etching his name on the Stonehaven Cup.

After two rounds down under he leads by three shots from 23 year old rookie Todd Sinnott 70 -4 total, who takes heart from the achievements of #1 Jordan Spieth who moved into contention to defend his title with -3 68, along with Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts 66, and former champion Geoff Ogilvy 71, all four shots behind Jones.

First round leader Lincoln Tighe slipped to 73 and Web.com Tour player Aron Price 68 are also -3 while PGA Tour pro Rhein Gibson 68 is alone at -2

It looks like the majority of the fans are following Spieth who had it going but spoiled a really great day with two late bogeys for his 68 then had this to say. "I feel like I've still got the best golf yet to be played, that's what's positive, that's what I'm going with.''

Adam Scott needs a big weekend at +2 after today's 73, he is 9 shots behind his countryman Jones.
