Miguel Angel Jimenez played the shot of the day, a hooking 3 wood from 250 yards over the pond to the severely tilted 17th at Valderrama, he missed the 15 footer for eagle, made the birdie, then left his birdie attempt an inch short on 18 to finish 70, -5
His birdie, birdie par finish meant Sergio needed to par 18 to win. His drive was perfect, his approach found the green side rough. He chipped out to 3 feet, made the knee knocker to win (71 -6) in front of a sun soaked Spanish crowd, to become the first Spaniard to win at Valderrama, back to back wins, what a fortnight for El Nino.
He is striking the ball as well as ever, and has found peace and contentment both with his open handed putting grip, but more importantly with himself.
Sergio is finally growing up. He has a new girlfriend having finally gotten over the dumping he suffered from Greg Norman's daughter Morgan Leigh. I also think that Tiger's demise in the pecking order that exists on tour can only be a confidence booster for Sergio as much if not more so than anyone else.
He has been 2nd here 3 times 2004,05,06 and will now be back in the world's top 20. Miguel Jimenez put on a great show and if he had of matched his iron play with his putter on the front 9, the Andalucian would have won by a few.
