First time winners ?? Fowler, Slattery, Baird? Hadwin? Faxon?

What do Rickie Fowler, Briny Baird and Brad Faxon, Lee Slattery have in common ???
They are all looking for their first wins....ok in Faxon's case first win on the Champions tour..

All 4 lead their events going into today's final rounds..

European/Australasian Tour
Kolon Korean Open
Rory McIlroy slipped ten shots behind leader Rickie Fowler as he only managed a third round 73 at the Kolon Korea Open.

The young Ryder Cup stars from opposite sides of the Atlantic both held a share of the overnight lead, but while US Open Champion McIlroy had four bogeys, four birdies and a double bogey 73, American Fowler carded eight unanswered birdies in a 63.

At -13 Fowler leads by four from former US PGA Championship winner Y E Yang -9, with Kim Meen-whee in third on -7

update...: American Rickie Fowler emphatically claimed a first career victory at the Kolon Korea Open on Sunday after storming to a six shot win over US Open champion Rory McIlroy at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.

World number 36 Fowler, 22, carded a three-under-par 68 final round to top the leaderboard at 16-under-par overall and complete a wire-to-wire win at the KRW1,000,000,000 OneAsia event despite finishing with back-to-back bogeys.

McIlroy produced a fourth round rally after playing his final 11 holes in seven-under-par to card a superb 64, but the 22-year-old was left to rue a third round 73 as the world number three was forced to settle for a second consecutive runner-up finish

The last time Ernie Els won a tournament on the PGA TOUR was last year -- he actually won two of them. The last time Briny Baird won one was, well, never.

Not that Baird hasn't had his chances -- 347 of them to be exact.
Baird has won over $11m.. without winning, shot 64 -13 to begin Sunday 2 shots clear of Ernie 68 -11 and Paul Casey 67 -11..

Meanwhile Adam Hadwin had a sensational 64 of his own and is T4 at -10, just 3 shots back

update..Bryce Molder became another first time winner when he beat Briny Baird on the 6th playoff hole. Molder captured his first tour victory by making a 6-foot birdie putt

Molder and Baird were stuck in time, going from the 17th hole to the 18th hole in three cycles, matching birdies and pars, both players feeling at various points that they were going to win.

Three times, Molder hit driver on the 284-yard 17th hole over the water and had eagle putts for the win, each one a little closer to the hole than the previous one, all of them sliding by the side of the cup.

On the fourth extra hole, Baird felt like a winner when Molder drove into the hazard. Molder was able to get to the front of the green from the junk, while Baird's wedge hit the top of the flag and spun back some 12 feet. He missed.
After nearly two hours, Baird blinked and Molder finally made a putt to win

If there was a consolation for Baird, he earned $540,000 and now is assured of getting his card back for next year.

Bud Cauley, the 21-year-old who turned pro this summer, shot 66 and finished third to earn $340,000, which looks as if it will be enough for him to earn a card next year without having to go through the qualifying tournament.

Tiger Woods had three rounds in the 60s for the first time in more than a year and he finished 10 shots behind in a tie for 30th.
Shane Bertsch surged into the lead alone with an eagle at No. 15 to reach 15 under, only to miss a short putt on the next hole. He failed to make another birdie and tied for fourth with a 64. Ernie Els also tied for fourth. He went bunker-to-bunker on the 15th and had to settle for par and closed with a 68

European Tour
Bankia Madrid Masters

update..
Lee Slattery survived a shaky start and a nerve-shredding final hole to capture his first European Tour title at the Bankia Madrid Masters.

Two clear at the start of the final round, the 33 year old Englishman bogeyed two of his first five holes at El Encin Golf Hotel. That allowed Argentine veteran Cesar Monasterio and Italian Lorenzo Gagli to seize the initiative, before Slattery regained control with four birdies in five holes from the 11th.

Three clear with three to play, Slattery looked in complete control as he parred the 16th and 17th – but there was still plenty of drama to come.

He hit his second on the par five last into a bunker, and then pushed his approach into the water to the right of the green. At that stage The Challenge Tour graduate was rekindling memories of Jean Van De Velde’s infamous closing hole in The 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

But a decent chip left him with two putts from ten feet, and he holed a two footer to secure a one shot win over Gagli.Despite his seven at the last, Slattery’s 71 gave him a 15 under par total in the Spanish capital.

“I’ve never shaken so much in my life,” said Slattery. “I’ve been out here for seven years and now I believe I can win. That’s been the biggest problem over the last few years.”

The victory will be all the sweeter for a player who lost his card by just €77 in 2007 and had to return to The Challenge Tour last year after again slipping out of the top 115 in 2009

Luke Donald adds 17,233 euros to his Race to Dubai lead of about 1.3m euros and now must wait to see if Webb Simpson or Nick Watney can pass him on the PGA tour money list before deciding whether to come back to the States to try to add to his lead. He is about $90,000 ahead with 2 events (Georgia and Disney) left. Simpson and Watney are not in the field this weekend
