What a great weekend in store after a fabulous Friday at Augusta

A total of 49 players have made the cut of 145, which ties the lowest cut in Masters history.

It was flashback time for Tiger yesterday with his -6 66, -7 total charging up the leaderboard on the back nine, making all the putts we/he expected to make..it was exciting. A word of caution however, we have seen this act several times recently, and he is more likely the way he has been playing to shoot 74 today as he is 68... That's another reason we'll be watching !!

At one point yesterday Rory was at -9 with 3 par fives to go and I thought he could have really run away with it the way the pack was playing behind him. However -10 and leading the Masters going into this weekend is not all bad, especially for a 21 year old !

He is bidding to become the second youngest winner of the title after Tiger, added a 69 to his brilliant opening 65 and he is -10 and two in front of fellow young gun Jason Day after the 23 year old Australian fired a spectacular 64 -8 total, the round of the day

Tiger is T3 with Korean KJ Choi  AT -7after a nine-birdie 66 and last year's runner-up Lee Westwood two further back at -5 following a 67.

Woods  looked in danger of missing the cut at E after seven, but then came 3 birdies around the turn, then 3 more in a row from the 13th and like the Tiger of old the birdie on 18 to finish.

As I wrote yesterday the odds were stacked against Mickelson winning on back to back weeks and all the hoopla about this year being all about Phil then all the rest are turning out to be just that.. hoopla. His chances of a successful defence were hit by 3 bogeys in 4 holes from the 3rd however he then birdied 3 of the next 4 to get back to -2, but then he bogeyed the 11th and missed out on birdie chances at the 13th and 15th the par fives.

Lee Westwood is in contention at a Major again, no surprise.  After opening with 72, he fired -5 67 good for T7, 5 shots behind his Ryder Cup colleague. "It was good," said Westwood, who had 4 birdies, 1 bogey and an eagle at the par five 15th.

Luke Donald who could become the world's #1 shot a Masters career best 68 to move into that group at -4

Freddie Couples was the story early with his 4-under-par 68 for a two-round total of -5 139, five shots back. He was up to -6 at one point.. We all should have bad backs like that !!

So Tiger stole all the thunder late in the day, but I really enjoyed watching the 3 young guns. Their combined age is 66, and they combined to make 34 birdies in the first 36 holes. 1st at -10 (McIlroy), 2nd at -8 (Day) and T7 at -5 (Fowler). Puma's golf gear must be selling off the shelves as Rickie just looks great every time he tees it up. I wonder if he'll give up his traditional electric tangerine on Sunday for some neon Masters green, just to match the green jacket !! He is paired with Freddie Couples at 2.05

McIlroy and Day will be paired together in Saturday's final grouping at 2:45 p.m.
