When golf doesn't matter

Ryo Ishikawa,( 65 76) , Hiroyuki Fujita (71 73) and Yuta Ikeda (74 73) are all from Japan

Japan in the last 36 hours has been hit with an 8.9 earthquake, then a 12' high tidal wave that has killed hundreds, no thousands, and done damage unparalleled in that proud country's history, now a 6.7 aftershock and more destruction and devastation for many Japanese

Mother nature unleashed is incredibly powerful as the scenes we have been witnessing with boats, cars, houses etc being thrown around like dinky toys are just the start,,

Over 10,000  are dead and the number is rising, Honest working people, rich and poor alike have had everything destroyed. Chaos....

Ryo, Hiroyuki and Yuta have all said they have been told their loved ones are OK..

Looks like only Ryo will make the cut as if that matters or maybe it does...

One day when talking with my former broadcast partner Scott Metcalfe who moonlights as the News Director at 680 News, we were talking about how trivial the amount of attention Phil Kessel was getting from our Sports media when there was death and destruction all around us..

Scott in his usual calm manner said " Bry, sports is a diversion for the masses "

He is  right of course, but considering the current plight of their fellow countrymen, this golf tournament can't really matter tio Ryo, Hiroyuki or Yuta.

My heartfelt condolences to them and all affected by this terrible catastrophe

Bryan Angus
