Scotsman Martin Laird leads at Bay Hill, 3 Canucks in T20 in Louisiana

"Most of it was all on the greens, and obviously I'm driving the ball really well and putting really well. Ask any pro; that's a pretty good combination to have, especially on a golf course this long where you have to drive the ball in the fairway."

So said Martin Laird after his sparking -7 65 yesterday gave him a 1 shot lead over Spencer Levin 970) and KJ Choi (64).

So apart from Monty and maybe Sandy Lyle what other prominent Scots do you know, and I won't take you back to the patriarchs of this game with James Braid and Old and Young Tom Morris etal.. Here are a few..

Tommy Armour, Ken and Eric Brown, Brian Barnes, Andrew Colthart, Ross and Scott Drummond, David Huish, Bernard Gallagher, Martin Laird, Paul Lawrie, Catriona Matthew, Gary Orr, Richie Ramsey, Ronnie Shade, Sam Torrance..

Laird from Glasgow came over to the States as a 17 year old and spent 4 years at Colorado State University under the tutelage of coach Jamie Bermel and made his pro debut in 2009.  He has been playing really well all year with 5 T25's in 7 starts including T3 at Phoenix and T5 at Transitions. He hits it a mile ( 4th in driving distance) and as he says his putter is now co-operating as well..

Tiger as I mentioned yesterday is at -3 (73,68) and Mickelson is T42 +1  after 70,75.

Here is a leaderboard going into today with our Stephen Ames starting at E  (75,69)

LPGA Tour

Over half the field has not completed round 2 yet due to weather delays and I will continue to update that story including our 5 Canucks at the Kia Classic out near LA.

EUROPEAN Tour

Round 3 is well underway this morning and more than 20 players were separated by only four strokes at the halfway stage of the Open de AndalucĂa de Golf  with Jeppe Huldahl, Rikard Karlberg and Maarten Lafeber leading the way.

I will update this as the day progresses
