Ames Sunday charge fall just short...Pendrith T8 in Bermuda... Monday wrap / full results

PGA Tour Champions : Charles Schwab Cup Championship Leaderboard

We all knew Steve Stricker had won the season long Charles Schwab Cup after his sensational 2023 season, including 3 majors, and I can report his father who was hospitalized in Wisconsin, forcing Steve to WD, has been released and sent home.

Steve Alker backed up on Sunday with -1 70 to finish 67 64 65 70 -18, but his 4 shot lead was just enough to hold off a hard charging Ernie Els and Stephen Ames both 2nd with -6 65's -17 totals.

With 2 wins on the season Alker picked up over $1,000,000 on Sunday, $528,000 for the win and a $500,000 bonus for finishing 2nd to Stricker.

Meanwhile Ames was bogey free on Sunday, 65 68 69 65 on the week, ending up the year with 4 wins and 6th place in the Charles Schwab Cup points, establishing himself as one of this tours top stars along with Stricker, Alker, Harrington, Langer and Els.  He won $2,470,874 in official prize money. Standings

He summed up his year " I think overall it was a good season, four wins in there I rate myself a B+ because I was a bit inconsistent.

Last year I was more consistent where I had more chances to win, this year I didn't have as many but won 4 which is nice.

This week I couldn't get the putter to work for the first 3  days. Today it felt really nice in my hands and I made a lot of good putts coming in. I didn't hit the ball as well as I did the first 3 days but that's kind of how golf goes"

PGA Tour : Butterfield Bermuda Championship Leaderboard

Camilo Villegas is 41 now and has been lost in golf's no mans land for 9 years, his last win at the Wyndham Championship in 2014, playing tours around the world, some on the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry, DP World where ever he could, working hard on his game with little to show for it, keeping his spirit up as much as possible especially after losing his two year old daughter Mia to cancer in 2020.

He has been hot this last fortnight, finishing 2nd last week in Mexico and finally breaking through this week in Bermuda 67 63 65 65 -24 to beat Alex Noren by 2 shots, worth $1,170,000 that 2 year exemption and 500 Fed Ex points.

LPGA: the Annika presented by Gainbridge at the Pelican

American Lilia Vu has already won 2 majors, the Women's Open and the Chevron this year and her win -19 261, on Sunday at the Annika was her 4th of the season worth $487,500, moved her to #1 in the world rankings and with Celine Boutier missing the cut, is considered an odds on favourite to win the Player of the Year heading into the season finale CME Group Tour Championship but be reminded Boutier has retained the season long point race top spot.

Her only chance to win, is to win next week and have Vu finish worse than 8th.

As we know golf can be a cruel mistress, just ask Denmark's Emily Pedersen.

She was firmly in control for 3 rounds until she had her worst round. Not only did she lose this event and her 1st LPGA win, but with a double bogey at the 72nd she knocked herself out of the top 60 for the season finale. T5 63 65 64 74

Brooke Henderson had her bad round on Friday ending up T19, 62 75 65 68 -10 $39,029

This week is the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
