Welcome to 2022 ! Schedule highlights, Canadians on tours..

Welcome back to my 29th year, first with our radio show Fairways on SNET Fan590, which we began in 1993, I produced every show and first co-hosted with the late Bob Durant, then with Scott Metcalfe (680 News) and Bob Weeks (ScoreGolf then TSN).

I began this FairwaysPlus site in 2010 after the downsizing at Rogers Communications following Ted Rogers passing resulted in a complete company re structure which cost many of us senior staff our jobs beginning in 2010, and it hasn't stopped yet with mainstays like Dave Cadeau and Jason Rozon who both rose through the ranks over more than 20 years to leadership positions behind the scenes, being "let go" and most of the "voices" of the "glory years"at the station led by Bob McCown have long since been terminated.

I have penned 4,093 articles on this site heading into the year.

Looking at the 2022 schedules, the PGA Tour starts as usual with last years winners invited to the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, January 6-9, then the first full field the following week at the Sony Open while the European Tour now titled the DP World Tour begins January 20-23 with Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the Yas Links and a full $8,000,000 USD purse headlined by Rory McIlroy and Colin Morikawa.

There are a record 8 Canadians with full PGA Tour status. In order on the Fed Ex Cup standings MacKenzie Hughes (11), Taylor Pendrith (47), Adam Hawin (65), Corey Connors (87), Roger Sloan (122), Adam Svensson (133), Nick Taylor (144) and Michael Gligic (156). Expect to see Hughes and Connors in the Presidents Cup Team playing the USA at Quail Hollow September 20-25.

Champions Tour : Mike Weir and Stephen Ames coming off successful 2021 season's will continue on the senior circuit this year.

Three Canadians this year on the LPGA Tour led by Brooke Henderson who is joined by Maude Aimee-LeBlanc and Maddie Szeryk, both from the Symetra Tour. By the way Maddie who has Canadian parents, lives in Dallas beat Brooke by 14 shots to win the Canadian  Junior Girls Championship in 2013.

Alena Sharp has lost her status at Q school, relegated to the Symetra Tour but expect to see her in some events as an invitee on the LPGA Tour.

Of course the PGA Tour is all abuzz with the news that Tiger will return at some point on a part time basis as he recovers from his crushed right leg at age 46. and the sponsorship of the European Tour by the Emirates from Dubai has pumped much needed financial life into a the struggling circuit, in many cases doubling purses amongst several other major improvements I wrote about here last season.

PGA Tour highlights:

Masters April 7-10 Augusta, Georgia

PGA Championship May 19-22 Southern Hills, Tulsa.

RBC Canadian Championship June 9-12 St George's GC Toronto
