Rory returns to Irish Open, Cockerill the lone Canadian.. Thursday TEE TIMES

European Tour: Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Tee Times

Rory McIlroy will return to the Mount Juliet Estate for this week's Irish Open, for the first time in 17 years.

Then, as a 13 year old he snuck under the ropes at the trophy presentation to winner Tiger Woods and stood right behind him!

"I could've stole his glove from his back pocket. It was the first time I saw him live hitting a golf ball and was in awe. I grew up idolizing him"

This is the first of 3 weeks back in the UK for Rory, followed by the Scottish Open, then the Open at Royal St.George's. Due to COVID restrictions his wife and young family will stay behind in Florida.

He will be paired with Tommy Fleetwood and American John Catlin who has won twice on the European Tour. See tee times above..

Aaron Cockerill

Canadian Aaron Cockerill continues his season in Europe and tees off at 12.30 local time off the 10th tee.

Monday at Wimbledon, Hovland makes history, final golf scoreboards/ stories..

The Wimbledon fortnight at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club gets underway in SW London under rain filled skies this Monday morning, however since my last year there in my capacity as the GM at Craiglockhart Sports &Tennis Centre, some things have changed, some never will. Roofs covering the courts may be the  biggest change of all, making the life of the Tournament Director, like my old pal Alan Mills a lot easier. The days of dodging the showers, and constantly re-scheduling matches was a nightmare. Often the mixed doubles had to be cancelled all together, and remember the UK used to come to a standstill, with millions tuned into the BBC at home watching the uninterrupted coverage.

LPGA

Seb Korda is due to play today at Wimbledon,, yesterday he watched his older sister Nelly win her first major, the KPMG Women's PGA. Alena Sharp had a great week except for her last 9 holes with two doubles and 2 bogey's, she T25 -2, while Brooke Henderson T21 -3.. The results are here.

Champions Tour:

Mike Weir 72, Stephen Ames 73 both T20 +8 at the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship, not alone in being miles behind run away winner by 6 shots, Steve Stricker (70) at -7. Results here

PGA Tour:

Not a great week for any of the Canadians at the Travelers Championship, David Hearn 71 T73 +2, Mac Hughes 74 +3 T76.

Sloan, Taylor, Hadwin, Gligic all missed the cut and all six of them play this week in Detroit at the Rocket Mortgage.

Harris English took 8 playoff holes to beat pga someone called Kramer Hickok. Results here.

 PGA Tour Latinoamerica:

Drew Nesbitt from Shanty Bay, Ontario, has been a topic of conversation in this blog from time to time, this week he travelled down to Ecquador and lost in a playoff at the Banco del Pacifico.

At -17 for the week he lost to a birdie on the 1st extra hole to American Connor Godsey. Results here

European Tour:

Since he turned  pro in 2019 I've been touting a young Norwegian, Victor Hovland, he has already won twice on the PGA Tour and yesterday made history in Germany at the BMW International Open with a 2 shot victory (70 -19)) over Martin Kaymer who closed with a 64 -17.

Viktor Hovland

This is the first time a man from Norway has won on the European Tour. Results

Alena Sharp steals the show opening T3 at KPMG Women's PGA Championship... Friday leaderboards

LPGA: KPMG Women's PGA Championship leaderboard here.

With Brooke Henderson stumbling to an opening +2 74, it was her less illustrious Olympic partner Alena Sharp who carried the day, opening with 4 birdies in 5 holes, and after a couple of bogey's another birdie and a double, she made what she called 2 tricky downhillers to finish -3 69, just 2 shots off the lead.

She is in the late wave today (2.17pm)at this LPGA major in Wisconsin at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.

Here's some of  what she had to say in her press conference. "It's been a tough season so to get off to a great start in a major is important no matter how you've been playing all year."

I've kind of been behind after Thursday, so it's going to be nice to have a less stressful Friday. Those last 2 putts were tricky downhillers so making them was solid, since my putting hasn't been so solid all year"

With recent time off since she missed the US Open she discovered she' been aiming left while working with her putting coach Brett Saunders. A change in her setup has helped her to correct that.

Alena hasn't been on the lead early often this year, and she admitted she told her caddie/wife Sarah she was getting nervous.

I've learned to take a couple of deep breaths, slow down and stay in the present, not in the  future and that will continue to be one of my keys going forward.

PGA Tour: Travelers Championship Friday leaderboard here.

Mac Hughes is T15 after -3 67, Michael Gligic T25 -2 68, David Hearn E 70, Nick Taylor E 70, Adam Hadwin +1 71, Roger Sloan +3 73.

The leader is an American Kramer Hickok -7 63.

Champions Tour: Bridgestone Senior Players Championship leaderboard here

Mike Weir and Stephen Ames both T47 after opening +4 74's on the south course at Firestone GC, in Akron, Ohio.

The leader is Steve Stricker who lapped the field with -7 63, 4 shots ahead of the field.

European Tour: BMW Round International Friday Leaderboard

Round 2 is in progress with Ireland's Niall Kearney in the clubhouse lead with 65 68 -11.

With the cut projected at -2, Aaron Cockerill opened with -2 70 and tou can follow his progress by clicking on the blue leaderboard above.

Henderson, Sharp, Connors, Hughes are Canada's golf Olympians

Are we really going to have a summer Olympics in Tokyo ? That country's doctors are telling their political leaders and the IOC not to, but teams are being announced, some are already there.

The golf rankings which dictate team qualification were announced yesterday. Those rankings are here.

As you may know guys like Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson qualify but have announced they won't be attending.

Corey Connors (36) and Mac Hughes (63) make up the Canadians men's team while Brooke Henderson (5) and Alena Sharpe(143) make up the women's for the 2nd time.

Tuesday shagbag: Strong medicine for Hughes, Henderson, Weir in majors this week...LPGA Thursday tee times..

Another 5 day shift done and dusted the the heat and humidity of a hopelessly overcrowded weekend at Thomson Park, makes way to a lovely cool, clean Tuesday morning shagbag.

Having my own truck at work means I can keep up with the Jays and the sports updates, including a heroic 4-1 Denmark win over Russia in the Euro 2020, at home in Copenhagen no less, as great a COVID treat as that nation could receive.

US Open final scoreboard here

Mac Hughes had missed 5 cuts in a row, missed 6 cuts in 9 majors, never inside top 40, so to be tied for the lead after 3 rounds at Torrey Pines was about as good as it gets. Even with a 2 bogey start on a very very tough south course, he was just a shot off the lead after 9 holes.

However a double crossed attempted cut 5 iron at the par 3 11th ended up in a tree after bouncing on the cart path. Strong medicine #1 needed after the resulting double bogey 5 which ended his chances. A +6 77 T15 (strong medicine #2) will go in the record books along with the 2 birdie finish featured in Jon Rahm's win, however what we won't see there until he plays again, perhaps this week, is the confidence Hughes takes with him.

Rahm 1st -6 #2,250,000   Mac Hughes T15 +1  $179,279  7 shots worth over $2m....strong medicine #3..

The old adage " If it doesn't kill ya, it will make you stronger"

" I'll leave here with a lot of confidence knowing I was in there for 63 holes with the best players in the world. I've just got to get better, plain and simple."

He plays again this week at the Travelers Championship along with Nick Taylor, Michael Gligic, Adam Hadwin and Roger Sloan.

There are 2 more majors this week.

1. KPMG Women's PGA Championship

Having missed the cut last week and had a W/D the week before, Brooke Henderson arrives with her sister back on the bag in John's Creek Georgia, at the Atlanta Athletic Club for a major she won in 2016 and finished 2nd in 2017 at this KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Alena Sharpe is the other Canadian. It's the 2nd major in 3 weeks on the LPGA. Thursday tee times are  here.

2. Bridgestone Senior Players

Both Stephen Ames and Mike Weir are in great form recently on the Champions Tour, both with wins, and Weirsy a top 10 machine thus far.

They are in Akron Ohio at the tough narrow tree lined south course at the Firestone CC. Harvey Firestone built the park on which the course was designed in 1929 for his employees at the Firestone Tire and Rubber company.

If memory serves me Tiger won here 6 times including his "shot in the dark" at the 2000 WGC event which he won by 11 strokes.

Symetra Tour: Prasco Charity Championship

In recent year's I've paid less attention to this feeder tour for the LPGA but a word of praise her for Quebec's Maude- Aimee LeBlanc who looks set to play her way onto the LPGA next year.

Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Sherbrooke, Que., tees off of the 5th tee during the CP Women's Open in Regina, Thursday, August, 23, 2018. THE CANADIAN PRESS Jonathan Hayward

She's had top 10's two weeks in a row, and has 4 top 10's including 3 in 2nd place so far this year, where she's 4th on the money list, with the top 10 players moving up. The long hitter is 2nd in scoring with 70.1 and has 103 birdies (3rd). There are 9 Canadians in the field down in Cincinnati.

Round 2 rain delay, Henderson's slow start at Meijer LPGA Classic.. Friday leaderboard/ TEE TIMES

Meijer LPGA Classic Friday leaderboard here

Breaking news: Rain has halted play in round 2, tee times will begin at 9.15am

A +3 75 T128 is not exactly the script defending champion Brooke Henderson had in mind down in Grand Rapids, Michigan for the Meijer LPGA Classic, so she will have her work cut out for today if she  doesn't want to miss her 2nd cut in a row.

The cut is projected at -2.

The lead held by 4 players including Japan's Nasa Hataoka who lost the US Open in a playoff, is 10 shots ahead at -7.

Alena Sharp had a  solid -2 70 T49th. Jaclyn Lee E 72 T85.

Henderson, playing without sister Brittany on the bag due to visa restrictions, was out in 35, but 4 bogey's on this Blythefield course she loves had her back in 40.

11/18 GIR, 7/13 fairways,  0/2 sand saves and 32 putts is the tale of the tape as they say in boxing.

This event is reknown for low scoring, so it takes 4 good days to be in contention.

Hadwin's solid start, round 1 to be continued this morning at US Open... Friday scoreboard. TEE TIMES

 US Open Friday leaderboard here

Adam Hadwin in the words of veteran Canadian star Richard Zokol " needs to get to the next level", meaning he's been stuck in the same milieu with his game for sometime, in the words of Lee Trevino "if that dog ain't hungry it's not gonna hunt".

I'm not sure if Adam would agree he's become comfortable with his life in the top 100 on the PGA Tour, but yesterday he was very pleased with his start, -1 70 T11 as a weather delayed Thursday wound down at the US Open, just 3 shots off the lead.

"It's a tough week, all 4 days is a grind through every round, so to get under par for the first round is a great start. I did a lot of good things, so gained some momentum for the next three.

I had 3 good days of practice here, hitting it well, rolling it well, I'm comfortable with the west coast poa annua greens, I see them well, read them well.

It's just a matter of staying patient, treating each shot for what it's worth. I hit some really, really good shots to targets that may have looked average on TV, or on the scorecard, but that's what I needed to do"

Mac Hughes 73 T61 while Corey Connors and Taylor Pendrith both had 75 T96.

Louis Oosthuizen is -4 thru 16 holes, Russell Henley is in the clubhouse with the lead after his -4 67.

The remaining field who didn't finish will be called out before 7am this morning, (10am est),

Rory McIlroy raised a big cheer as he hustled down the 18th in darkness last night with a birdie for -1 70, thus avoiding the early recall this morning.

Weather. It's an overcast, cool start to the day in San Diego, a little rain in the air as of 7am, no word of fog, and as the sun breaks through it should be a pleasant warm day with a gentle breeze off the Pacific.

Fog delays play at US Open at Torrey Pines.... Live scoreboard revised TEE TIMES

US Open Thursday scoreboard/ tee times SCORING

Fog rolled in off the Pacific delaying the start of this US Open on Torey Pines south by 90 minutes hours, however play began in the mist at 8.15 local time 11.15est.

Canadians: Mac Hughes 8.48 1st tee, Corey Connors 9.42am 10th tee, Adam Hadwin 10.05am 1st tee, Taylor Pendrith 12.30pm 10th tee.

Opinion: I agree with many of my colleagues, the re-designed south course, with the different grasses especially around the greens, the thick rough,  narrow fairways, heavy bunkering, poa anna greens, and a firmer, soon to be baked out Torrey Pines, scoring will be at a premium this week, anything under par will be in contention.

Brooke Henderson defends title without sister Brittany as caddie

This week Brooke Henderson is in Michigan to defend her title at the Meijer LPGA Classic which she won in 2017 and 2019, the last time it was played due to COVID.

However due to a snag in sister/caddie Brittany's work visa, she will not be able to carry Brooke's bag for the first time since 2016. Instead veteran caddie Evertte Nini from Texas who has known the Henderson's for years will fill in.

The full report from Steve Eubank (lpga.com)

It seems so long ago, even to her. But 24 months later, Brooke Henderson has returned to Blythefield Country Club to defend her title at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. The fact that it has been two years since Henderson won in Grand Rapids, Mich. is beside the point. With all the disruptions of 2020 when the Meijer event had to be canceled, Henderson is just happy to be back.

I always love playing in the Meijer LPGA classic here at Blythefield,” Henderson said upon her arrival in Grand Rapids on Monday. “I have so many wonderful memories winning here twice on Father’s Day. Being able to share that moment with my Dad, as well as alongside my sister and Mom is special. My Dad has played a huge role in my career and so being able to hoist an LPGA trophy to celebrate with him on Father’s Day was pretty cool.”

In addition to 2019, the 23-year-old Canadian won the Meijer in 2017. Her scores in those two victories are a combined 39-under par.

Grand Rapids has started to feel like home with my two victories here at Blythefield, my own street - Brooke Henderson Lane - and with it being my brother-in-law’s hometown,” Henderson said.

Her brother-in-law, Zach Sepanik, was a sports reporter in Grand Rapids for the local NBC affiliate, WOOD-TV before joining the communications team at the LPGA. Sepanik married Brittany Henderson, a former Symetra Tour player and Brooke’s longtime caddie, on September 23, 2020.

Unfortunately, this edition of the Meijer won’t be the same for the Hendersons. Dave and Darlene, the girls’ parents, remain at home in Smiths Falls, Ontario as COVID-19 lockdowns in Canada continue. And this week, for the first time since the Coates Golf Championship in Ocala, Fla., in early February of 2016, Brooke and Brittany will not be working together.

After marrying Sepanik, Brittany applied for new immigration status as the wife of an American citizen. Unfortunately, the application remains in limbo and Brittany’s work visa expired on June 15. The couple bought a house in Naples, Fla. shortly after the wedding and have been working with Senator Marco Rubio’s office to expedite the paperwork. Until the process is complete, however, Brittany can stay in the country with her husband but cannot work in the United States.

I am disappointed to not have Brit with me this week as we make a great team,” Brooke said. “Unfortunately, there is a delay in her work permit due to Covid. Everything, understandably, has been a bit slower this past year. We respect the process and I look forward to having her back again soon!

“Brit will be in the sister role this week. She is my best friend and always supporting and being there for me.”

This week, Brooke will rely on veteran LPGA Tour caddie Evertte Nini from Austin, Texas. Nini has worked for Mariah Stackhouse, Tiffany Joh and Wei-Ling Hsu in the past. The Hendersons have known Nini for years.

US Open at Torrey Pines, course view here

TEE TIMES

With last weekend in the rear view mirror, Brooke Henderson's W/D for a non COVID related issue, Taylor and Sloan well down the field at the Palmetto in S.C (here), and Weirsy closing with 65 for another top 10 (T7) at the American Family Insurance in Wisconsin (here.), the top Canadian story was on the Korn Ferry Tour where Stuart McDonald had his 4th top 10 in five starts (T5) at the BMW Pro Am (here) to cement his place in the top 75 who make up the final playoffs, he is now at 61, all eyes turn to the US Open out in San Diego at Torrey Pines.

Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion and everyone except Tiger who won on this course a staggering 8 times, is there.

Canadians: Corey Connors (36) is the top ranked Canadian. He has cooled off a little from his hot streak in March/April. Mac Hughes (67) has been out of form recently, Adam Hadwin (100) had to Monday qualify as did Taylor Pendrith (194) who played well in last years US Open T23.

Phil Mickelson celebrates after winning the PGA Championship.

Currently DJ (1), Justin Thomas (2) and Jon Rahm (3) are your top 3 in the world, Rory has dropped to  (11), Jordan Spieth (24) and ageless Phil Mickelson has made it back to (30) with his PGA Championship win, and this is a home venue for him and his family.

Disappointing start for Henderson at Mediheal Championship.. Friday TEE TIMES/leaderboard

LPGA Tour: Mediheal Championship Friday TEE TIMES/leaderboard here

DALY CITY, Calif. (AP) — Irish rookie Leona Maguire shot a 7-under 65 on Thursday at Lake Merced to take the first-round lead in the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, the tour's second straight event on the San Francisco Peninsula.

Lexi Thompson followed her Sunday back-nine meltdown in the U.S. Women's Open at nearby Olympic Club with a 71, while Michele Wie West rallied for a 73.

Off last week off after failing to qualify for the Women's Open, Maguire had nine birdies and two bogeys. The 26-year-old former Duke star matched the tournament record in the third playing of the event, missing a chance to break it when she closed with a bogey on the par-5 ninth.

"It's a tough golf course," Maguire said. "You really have to hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens. I've been playing nice as of late. Things just haven't been quite clicking, and they clicked nicely this morning."

Jasmine Suwannapura of Thailand shot a 66, birdieing the par-5 18th late in the afternoon to pull within one.

Albane Valenzuela, the former Stanford player from Switzerland, was another stroke back with Alison Lee. Former Cardinal teammate Emily Wang caddied for Valenzuela.

Canadians : Brooke Henderson shot a +5 77. She birdied two of the first three, then dropped seven strokes with five bogeys and a double bogey. She only  hit 8/14 fairways and used 36 putts T113. The cut is projected at +2.

Anne Catherine Tanguay +7 79, Jaclyn Lee +4 76 and Alena Sharp +3 75.

Thompson offset bogeys on Nos. 2 and 3 with an eagle on the par-5 fifth, birdied the other three par 5s and had two bogeys. On Sunday at Olympic, she blew a five-stroke lead, playing the final seven holes in 5 over to finish a stroke out of a playoff that Yuka Saso won.

Michelle Wie West was 4 over with four holes left, then eagled the par-5 15th and birdied the par-4 16th. She has yet to make a cut in her four starts since returning from having her first child, shooting 74-80 last week at Olympic.

Hall of Famer Inbee Park was four strokes back at 69 with Jennifer Kupcho, Da Yeon Lee, Mariajo Uribe, Jane Park and Lauren Kim.

"It's a little bit different atmosphere with no fans this week," said Inbee Park, coming off a seventh-place tie at Olympic. "It just makes me relax a little bit more after last week."

Maguire played alongside the tournament's two past champions, Sei Young Kim (2018) and Florida neighbor Lydia Ko (2019). Ko had five birdies and five bogeys in a 72, while Kim had four birdies and five bogeys in a 73.

"It was a lot of fun to play with Lydia," Maguire said. "We played a lot together over the last few months at Lake Nona and she's a great player. Obviously, Sei Young as well and they know what they're doing around here, they have had some good success, so tried to learn a little bit from them."

Maguire birdied four of the first six holes, dropped a shot on the par-4 16th, then had three straight birdies. She added two more birdies before making the closing bogey on the course that reminds her of Ireland.

"I suppose the weather is similar to home, even the golf course is similar to home," Maguire said. "It's very green and sort of tree lined a little bit like what we get at home. Northern California's been good to me and I won my first Symetra event not too far from here, so these kind of golf courses suit my eye."

Stanford's Rachel Heck, the NCAA player of the year playing on a sponsor exemption, opened with a 76 in the group with Wie West.

Lucy Li, also in the field on a sponsor exemption, had a 71.

Saso and Women's Open playoff loser Nasa Hataoka skipped the event

Due to COVID restrictions the RBC Canadian Open was cancelled earlier this year, and will be replaced this week in South Carolina at the Congaree GC by the Palmetto Championship. This is a one off event

It's the week before the US Open on the west coast at Torrey Pines, and as such has attracted a pretty weak field headlined by the return after a lengthy absence of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Keopka. The rest of the top 10 are off, Tyrrell Hatton at #11 is the next highest ranked player.

Roger Sloan

There are 4 Canadians in the field:  David Hearn (1st tee 8.39), Nick Taylor (10th tee 12.48), Michael Gligic (1st tee 1.54), Roger Sloan (1st tee 2.16)

Tuesday morning shag bag...Great week with Canadians in the headlines..Final scoreboards..

After a 5 day outdoor work shift in this stinking humidity flooding southern Ontario, it's nice to be back at my desk with the A/C on, reflecting on the terrific past few days in Canadian pro golf.

Champions Tour: Principal Charity Classic final leaderboard here.

With leader  "Lumpy" Tim Herron leaking late oil in Des Moines at the Principal Charity Classic it was a great all Canadian charge from our 2 top senior men, Stephen Ames who came from 7 shots behind with -5 67, and Mike Weir 70 66 69 to finish 1/2 for the first time I can remember, certainly on this tour.

Stephen who last won in 2017, now has 2 Champions Tour titles, and Weirsy who won his 1st in early May, now has 2 top 5's in his last 2 events.

Women's US Open final leaderboard here

Brooke Henderson 68 78 69 70 -1 has declared herself "very pleased with my T7 at the Women's US Open, another top 10", in fact her 5th of the year. Yuko Saso -4 280 beat Nasa Hatoka in a 3 hole playoff.

PGA Tour: Memorial final leaderboard  here

Weir 5th, Ames 9th on Sunday at Principal Charity Classic.... live scoreboard

CHAMPIONS Tour: Principal Charity Classic Sunday leaderboard here

With a round to go, a guy lovingly called "Lumpy", Tim Herron (67 63 -14) has a 4 shot lead heading into today's final round down in Des Moines, Iowa at the Principal Charity Classic.

Stephen Ames

He has been hanging around (excuse the pun) the lower regions of this senior circuit for a few years, but this has been his week in the spotlight so far.

Mike Weir 70 66 -8 is T5, Stephen Ames, 68 69 -7 T9

A positive COVID claims leader Rahm, Canadians out of contention at the Memorial... Sunday leaderboard

PGA Tour: the Memorial Sunday TEE TIMES/ live scoring here

Nobody on the PGA Tour has been tested under their protocol procedures that Jon Rahm but he apparently was in proximity to someone with a positive result on May 31 and yesterday while leading the Memorial by 6 shots after 69 65, 64 -18, he received news that he had tested positive following that contact and will now be in quarantine until June 15.

Jon Rahm of Spain plays his shot from the second tee during the third round of the Memorial Tournament on Saturday, June 5, in Dublin, Ohio

That means his 2 nearest competitors, Collin Morikawa (66 72 66) and Patrick Cantley (69 67 68) both -12 will be in the final pairing today.

Corey Connors (74 69 74 +1) T37, and Nick Taylor (68 74 77 +3) T51 are well out of contention this week, with Mac Hughes (77 77) and Adam Hadwin (74 73) both missing the cut.

She is the lone Canadian and tees off today at 9.59 local time with Swedish amateur Maja Stark and a Korean Hyo Joo Kim.

Only 7 players are under par on this Olympic course with it's small greens and deep rough. The wind is scheduled to get up to 35kph from the W by the time the leaders tee off today, so I expect scoring will be  at a premium.

Henderson a shot off the lead at the US Women's Open... Friday TEE TIMES, leaderboard

US Women's Open Championship Friday leaderboard/tee times here.

Brooke Henderson is off to a solid start -3 68 after a breezy, overcast day at the Olympic Club on the shores of the Pacific Ocean for this years US Women's Open.

With 6 birdies and 3 bogey's including the 18th which moved her out of the lead she was happy with her round.

"They moved up a lot of tees which was really nice, gave us more birdie looks than we expected. Brittany and I capitalized on those quite a bit, which was fun. The course is still challenging so if you didn't hit the fairway it was hard to make par. The next 3 days will be challenging and interesting."

She is jjust a shot off the lead held by English star Mel Reid and a 17 year old American amateur Megha Ganne both at -4 67.

Angel Yin, Megan Khan join Brooke at 68 and they are in the group of 15 who managed to break par 71 on this great course that has hosted 5 US Open's. Ten players are at E.

2021 CP Women's Open cancelled due to COVID....

Golf Canada and Canadian Pacific confirm that Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club will host the 2023 CP Women’s Open; Province of British Columbia and Sport Hosting Vancouver confirm their support.

CP extends title sponsorship of CP Women’s Open an additional year through 2024.

CP’s charitable activities over the past two years help raise more than $2M for BC Children’s Hospital as well as Royal Inland Hospital

2021 CP Women’s Leadership Summit will be hosted as a virtual experience focused on audience empowerment and world-class guest speakers.

VANCOUVER – Due to logistical challenges and continued border restrictions related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Golf Canada, title sponsor Canadian Pacific (CP), and the LPGA Tour have announced that the 2021 CP Women’s Open, scheduled for August 23-29, 2021, at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, has been cancelled.

Golf Canada had been working with local, provincial, and federal government health officials towards a comprehensive health operation plan for the tournament. With a decision timeline established, Golf Canada engaged a number of stakeholders to navigate the impact of current provincial restrictions as well as federal quarantine measures in effect, given the number of players and event personnel required to cross the border for the event.

Despite the disappointment of cancelling the 2020 and 2021 events, Golf Canada and CP have confirmed that Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club will pivot to host the 2023 CP Women’s Open, August 21-27, 2023. Both the Province of British Columbia and Sport Hosting Vancouver have already confirmed their commitment to support Canada’s National Women’s Open Golf Championship in its return to British Columbia.

Ryan Paul, tournament director.

CP also confirmed that they have extended their partnership with Golf Canada an additional year through 2024 which includes title sponsorship of the CP Women’s Open.

“Together with CP, the LPGA Tour, and our friends at Shaughnessy, we share in the deep disappointment of the players, volunteers, partners, and golf fans with the cancellation of the 2021 CP Women’s Open,” said Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum.

Among the contributing factors to the 2021 cancellation was the continued uncertainty around international travel restrictions and quarantine requirements that made it most difficult to move forward with the Canadian event.

With the 2021 event officially cancelled, tournament officials with Golf Canada and CP will turn their focus to the 2022 CP Women’s Open, which was previously confirmed to be hosted at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club August 22-28, 2022.
