Graeme McDowell posted a fine -5 67, for a -6 total this morning in benign conditions on the newly re designed West Course at Wentworth, and the northern Irishman was asked what it would take to catch his pal, Rory McIlroy who'd just fired a classic -7 65 to take the clubhouse lead at -12.
" When Rory is on his game he's incredibly hard to catch, especially in conditions like these. He can use his tremendous length and play target golf, and that's why I think you're seeing these low scores this morning"
"When Rory is on his game", really describes the main difference for me, between him and Tiger, who seemingly could always find a way to be on his game, especially in big events, like this BMW PGA Championship. I think you can say the same about Dustin Johnson. When he is on his game he looks unbeatable, rendering the toughest courses to par 68's with his ridiculous length.
This morning Rory was at his best, hitting his 3 wood 25 yards past his playing partners Alex Noren and Lee Westwood, and he's making the putts so far. Result? 7 birdies, no bogey's 65, and his -12 total is 3 ahead of the rest, with the late wave now on course.
