I remember when Rory won at this Emirates GC in 2009 for his first pro win in 2009 and his girlfriend at the time couldn't attend because she was sitting her high school exams !! He's come a long way as a young man both on and off the course and this morning he shot -8 64 -14 to take a one-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Dubai Desert Classic

He is one ahead of Scotland's Marc Warren -7 65 -13, who credits the birth of his new son with his continued his recent form, remember he had a second-place finish last week in Doha. Warren says like so many new fathers his wee man has brought a whole new perspective on life and what's important.

Graeme McDowell, playing his first tournament of the year shot 65, -7 -12 with England's Seve Benson, -6 66 -12

Defending champion Stephen Gallacher loves this course, (second-first-first in his last 3), shot -5 67, -11 T5 along with Danny Willett (66), overnight leader Bernd Wiesberger (69), and the English pair,Lee Westwood (68) and Andy Sullivan (68).

Another South Korean who had to qualify for this field last Saturday, Ha Na Jang, shot a -7 65 in the second round of the Coates Golf Championship and opened a four-shot lead over Stacy Lewis heading into the third round.

The start of the round was delayed 90 minutes because of frost, and the interruption prevented about 50 players from completing 18 holes. They will return this morning to finish. Alena Sharp is T14 at -3

Tiger Woods, playing his first tournament of 2015 started poorly before salvaging a +2 73 at TPC Scottsdale by playing the last six holes in -3 He is T105th nine shots behind Ryan Palmer who leads. Woods hit just eight of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens, and needed 30 putts. He is 2 shots over the cut line as he plays early this morning.

Keegan Bradley and Bubba Watson are a shot back at -6 65. Zach Johnson was among four players at 66, while Angel Cabrera and Justin Leonard were in the group at 67.
Phil Mickelson, a three-time winner at the Phoenix Open, also got off to a bad start. He put two balls in the water on the par-5 15th and made double-bogey, and was +3 . He recovered with a birdie on 17, then added four more to come in at -2 69.

Canadians : Graham DeLaet lives in Scottsdale and he leads the Canucks T9 -4 67.
Cory Renfrew was -1 with one hole remaining yesterday. Nick Taylor, David Hearn and Mike Weir are all at E 71 and that is where the cut is projected. Adam Hadwin struggled to a +5 76
