I'm just wrapping up 5 days of looking after my Dad (95) and it made me wonder where I will be and who will be looking after me if I put in such a strong innings as he has. One thing for sure, if you are lucky enough to have a parent that you can still communicate with in their advanced years, make sure you treasure every moment and remember no matter how frustrating they can be, just think of what a nuisance you were when they were in charge !!..
If he could still see well enough, he'd look forward to watching the boy wonder Rory McIlroy lead four of the world's top 10 at the tenth Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Henrik Stenson (2) Justin Rose (6) and Rickie Fowler (10) star in a strong European Tour field including defending champion Pablo Larazzabal.
Rory has finished 2nd here 3 times, and the story yesterday was about how, as he does every year he wrote down his goals for this season on the back of a boarding pass on the flight to Dubai.
He memorizes it, then puts it in his wallet, never taking it out until the 2015 season is over, when he takes time to assess his performance privately... and privately is where those goals will remain as he refused to divulge them at his press conference..
I'll bet top of the list would be winning at Augusta, to win the Grand Slam at 25, then how about winning this years US Open at the links style Chambers Bay, south of Seattle to hold all four majors !!
Incidently Rory is paired with Rickie and Matteo Manessero, how about that for the world's best young future !!
