England's Andy Sullivan, looking for his first European Tour win, leads at the halfway stage of The South African Open Championship after he added a 70 to his opening 66, to get to -8, one shot ahead of Charl Schwartzel.
However the news wasn't so good for the Big Easy who surprisingly dropped off the pace with second round 77. Els, who has won the event five times, was just one shot behind Sullivan after an opening 67 but dropped down the leaderboard with a round which featured back-to-back triple bogeys around the turn.
Schwartzel, who has yet to win his national Open, finished birdie, eagle, birdie to record a 69.
