Random Tuesday tidbits on the coldest day of this winter..

With the thermometer hovering around -30*c, we are once again experiencing the Arctic air that we wimpy Torontonians associate with Winnipeg, and much farther north !

So before I have to head outside, here are some random notes that have meandered through my mind recently.

* Tiger will return to the Phoenix Open for the first time in 14 years starting January 29 and finishing on SuperBowl Sunday, ensuring a massive TV audience for CBS who have all the early tournaments until NBC take over at the start of the Florida swing. NBC also has the rights to the Super Bowl.

Woods will also head further west to Torrey Pines the week after for the Farmers Insurance, where he has won 8 times..

* David Duval, who for me has always been a little wacko, is the latest player to join the Golf Channel as a studio analyst. He will make his debut in two weeks at the Humana Challenge, where he shot 59 in the final round 15 years ago during his rise to No. 1 in the world.

He always  has marched to the beat of his own drummer, is right up there with the what the heck happened to his golf game question ( see Ian Baker Finch, Chip Beck etc), says he never found happiness till he met a women in 2003, Susie, now his wife with 3 kids, now 5 who he is Dad to, in Denver.

After winning the 2001 Open Championship he has not had a full-exempt card on tour since 2011, has battled various injuries for a decade. He lost his brother, his Dad and mother split up, he always seemed unhappy until he met Susie, seemed pretty immature, maybe it just took him a long time to grow up and deal with his demons, and come to think of it maybe that answers what the heck happened to his golf game !!

* Hunter Mahan is scheduled to play the Phoenix Open, Farmers Insurance Open, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and the Northern Trust Open. He may play all or none as his wife Kandi is expecting their 2nd child...Remember him leading our Canadian Open 2 years ago at the Abbey when he bolted from the practice tee in time to get home for their first..

* LPGA Tour...Don't you think a book, show or whatever on the love lives of the women would be a huge hit ? Who's straight, who's gay, who are dating their caddies, I mean who is boinking Paula Creamer and or Natalie Gulbis, do the Asian girls even have dates, so many juicy questions that all but those in the tours inner circle have answers to. Who has a drinking problem, who smokes weed ?...or worse.. and who needs a shrink?..

In this day of reality TV and TMZ websites that reveal all, why have these stories not been told, Why when thousands of lesbians from all over the world gather at Rancho Mirage for the Dinah Shore every year to party in the desert sun, and follow their favourites on the golf course, why does this not warrant so much as a whisper??

Are TV and the LPGA terrified of what we'll find out ? Maybe, but for a tour that can't get a major TV contract, I'll bet they would see their ratings soar when we got into their air tight locker room..or bedroom !!

When you walk as many miles as I do every week, these thoughts run through my mind !! just to keep me warm...
