Brooke Henderson opens with 71 at Toto Japan Classic

LPGA Tour Toto Japan Classic leaderboard http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/toto-japan-classic/leaderboard

Defending champion Shanshan Feng fired a -6 66 to lead the Toto Japan Classic along with Americans Lizette Salas and Jane Park, Japan's Saiki Fujita, Ai Suzuki and Nasa Hataoka, and South Korean Lee Ming-yong

Brooke Henderson is the lone Canadian and she opened with -1 71. She bogeyed the two par 3's on the front nine, out in 37, but had 2 birdies and all pars on the back for 34. She is T47 on a very tightly bunched leaderboard.

With 3 recent top10's including her win in New Zealand I was asked where she stands in the Race to CME Globe, the LPGA version of the Fed Ex Cup or the Race to Dubai.

She is very well placed, 4th in the standings, 241 points behind  So Yeon Ryu who is 3rd.  Golf fans know that in all these races, the top 5 players are in control of their own destiny, meaning if they win the Tour finale in Naples they win the $1m bonus.
