Nick Taylor trails the lead by 4 shots at the Valero Texas Open

PGA Tour Valero Texas Open leaderboard

On a day at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio when the wind blew over 20 mph there were only 14 scores below par, bunching up the leaderboard for a race to the finish in store for today.

Nick Taylor shot an admirable 71 for a -4 total which is just 4 shots off the lead held by perennial bridesmaid Kevin Chappell who had a late birdie run for a -1 71 good for a one-stroke lead at -8 ahead of first-round leader Branden Grace -2 70 -7 total, and John Huh (71). Chappell has finished 2nd eight times in his career, and is still after that elusive first win.

The crowded leaderboard continues at -6 with Ryan Palmer from Texas who had the lowest round of the day -4 68. He’s joined by second round co-leaders Bud Cauley (74) and Tony Finau (74), Sweden’s Carl Pettersson (71), Martin Laird (71), Kevin Tway (72) and Australian Cameron Smith (73).

Other Canadians:  Brad Fritsch (76) is +3  and Adam Hadwin (82), is +8
