With the 2018 Ryder Cup being staged at Le Golf National outside of Paris,  Frenchman Alexander Levy is determined to earn a spot in the European squad.

This morning he charged up the leaderboard from 7 shots behind the leader Dylan Frittelli to win the Volvo China Open in a playoff and stake his claim, and fulfill his dream of playing for Europe in front of his hometown fans and fellow countrymen.

With scores of 63 70 71 67 -17 he holed a 15 footer for birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Frittelli 70 63 64 74 -17 who missed his putt from the same range.

"It's a goal and a dream for me to play the Ryder Cup in France," he said. "I will do a lot of work to play the Ryder Cup and I will do my best to be part of the team."

If you've heard Frittelli's name it's because although he is South African, he went to university in Texas where he was the #1 player, just ahead of a guy called Jordan Spieth. He T5 last week in Shenzhen.
