Good sleep has McIlroy in fine fettle at WGC Mexico Championship

PGA Tour WGC Mexico Championship leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/competition/2017/wgc-mexico-championship/en/leaderboard.html

Jim Bones MacKay was the latest who succumbed at this WGC Mexico Championship, as players and caddies alike suffer from the infamous Mexican stomach bug. Phil Mickelson's long time caddie had to retire to the toilet after 4 holes, leaving Mickelson's younger brother Tim to finish up his round of 68 good for -7 and a T2.

Rory McIlroy however was feeling much better after medication and a 14 hour sleep and buoyed by an eagle 2 at the 14th when he holed his approach from 160 yards, he has taken the halfway lead with a sparkling -6 65, -9 total, and it could have been even better when you consider he missed 4 putts from inside 7 feet.

Justin Thomas (66) and Ross Fisher (68) are also T2 with Mickelson who will be playing with Rory in the final group today.

New world #1 Dustin Johnson is right in contention again after he birdied three of his last four holes for a 66, -6 total.

Canadian MacKenzie Hughes is T27 at -2 after his second straight 70.
