Luiten wins in Johor, Mulroy in South Africa on European Tour

All eyes have been on the Presidents Cup in Melbourne, but the European Tour continues and 2 results are just in from Johor (southern Malaysia) and South Africa.

europeantour.com...Dutchman Joost Luiten claimed a maiden European Tour title with a one shot victory from Daniel Chopra at the Iskandar Johor Open.Trailing overnight leader Chopra by four shots at the start of the day, Luiten compiled a -6 65 to fend off the Swede with a winning score of -15
After the tournament had been reduced to 54 holes due to three days of storm interruptions at Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, Chopra could only produce a final round of 70 and needed a birdie at the last to ensure he finished alone in second on 14 under.

Padraig Harrington, James Morrison and Rhys Davies ended in a tie for third on -13. Harrington and Morrison both signed for closing 69s while Davies carded an impressive 65 to climb the leaderboard.

Meanwhile in South Africa on the Leopard Creek GC., Garth Mulroy was caught twice but fought back to win his first European Tour title on home soil at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Two clear overnight, the 33 year old bogeyed the second to allow Jbe Kruger to level, before the latter’s challenge was ended by a double bogey six at the ninth when he found water.

Four birdies between the sixth and 13th looked to have sealed victory for Mulroy, but as he dropped a shot at the 14th Scotland’s George Murray played a wonderful second shot at the long 15th to ten feet and eagled.

But while Murray parred his way in for a career-best European Tour finish of second, Mulroy birdied the 15th and 16th – the latter with a 60 foot downhill putt - which with two closing pars gave him a four under par 68 and 19 under total.
