Jay Don Blake edges ahead in San Francisco

Jay Don Blake who had one of the great all time sponsors when he was on the PGA Tour, Playboy, went 424 consecutive tournaments without a win until this year when he won the Songdo IBD Championship in South Korea, has quietly moved to the top of the leaderboard going into today's final round.

He had 5 birdies and no bogey's at a cold, damp TPC Harding Park for a -5 66 and a 2 shot lead at -8, 205

Jay, who has struggled with a bad back for years began the season playing on partial-exemption status while needing to play Monday qualifiers in some of the events, says that his win in Korea has finally made him fell like he belongs on this tour, and he is certainly playing with the re-newed confidence that winning gives you.

Behind Blake, Jay Haas shot a 67 to join Michael Allen (69) and David Frost (69) at -6 while Loren Roberts, "the boss of the moss" had the round of the day,65, to sit at -5

Rod Spittle is T16 with scores of 70,72,72 +1 214, 9 shots behind Blake.

In the race for the Charles Schwab Cup between leader Tom Lehman and Mark Calcavecchia, Lehman is T16 at +1 (72) while Calcavecchia, 382 points behind Lehman, had a 70 that left him T6 at -4. He needs to finish at least second to win the season title
