The top 70 then go to Abu Dhabi for a playoff, with the top 50 advancing to the DP World Tour Championship.
It is a nervous time for many, for example with the cut falling at +1, Eddie Pepperell had to birdie the last hole to make the weekend, he is at #101.
With DP World Tour points leader Patrick Reed missing the cut, and Rory McIlroy off look for Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra 66 69 -7 to take over the points lead this weekend.
FINAL EDIT >> 1pm est 7pm Madrid
The overnight leader Grant Forest remains in contention for a wire-to-wire victory at the Open de España presented by Madrid after producing a brilliant burst of scoring on the back nine to share the lead with Joe Dean heading into the final round.
The Scot began the day with a one-shot lead but slipped down the leaderboard after following birdies at the third and fourth with a bogey and five pars in favourable scoring conditions.
He bounced back brilliantly, though, reeling off birdies at the 11th, 14th and 16th to reach -13 and grab a share of the lead alongside Englishman Dean.
Forrest, who is searching for his third DP World Tour title, said: "I'm happy with how I handled today.
"I didn't have my best stuff but I'm really proud of how I dug in and made some nice putts, a couple of good recovery shots and all in all a decent score again.
"This is one of my favourite tournaments - it's been good to me in the past - and I'd love nothing more than to go home with a trophy tomorrow."
Sheffield native Dean completed a fightback of his own on Saturday as he birdied the last from 31 feet to banish the memory of his previous two holes.
Eight birdies in his first 15 holes had seen Dean open up a three-shot lead at the top but his advantage was wiped out altogether when he followed up a double bogey on the 16th with a bogey at the 17th.
But those fireworks from Dean at the 18th made it a tie at the top, with Joel Girrbach, Victor Perez and Jacob Skov Olesen one shot behind on -12.
Dean reflected on his closing birdie putt, saying: "It gave a little bit of hope after those previous two holes.
"But nothing's guaranteed in this game and it only takes a slight lapse in concentration or a bad shot and before you know it you're chasing.
"It's nice to finish with a birdie on the last. We'll go again and see what happens."
