Asian domination, Sunday in the wind/rain at Royal Porthcawl.. Live scoreboard

     LPGA /LET R&A: AIG Women's Open

Leaderboard

WEATHER : "Rain showers forecast throughout the morning, with wind speeds increasing as each hour passes. By midday gusts of up to 30mph are expected.

Cloudy skies are expected to clear around mid-afternoon and make way for sunshine as conditions improve. Winds should ease from around 6pm before picking back up on Monday."

So there is the all important weather story as Mother Nature finally takes her hand in this version of the AIG Women's Open with round 4 well underway as I post this at 630am edt.

****Of the early wave gusting wind and rain have made scoring difficult, only 2 players Stacy Lewis 71 and Shannon Tan are in the clubhouse having broken par.

Miyu Yamashita acknowledges the crowd on the 18th green during the third round of the AIG Women's Open.

The leaderboard continues to be dominated by Asian women, or women of Asian descent, if you were new to watching, you could well think this was being played in Korea or Japan.

The AIG website posted an article today, I spoke to them about yesterday, that golfers from Asia have won 10 editions of the AIG Women's Open since 2000.

As play began today, Japan's Miyu Yamashita -9 who shot 76 yesterday to let the rest of the pack in, and A Lim Kim -8 top the leaderboard, and in fact 24 of 54 Majors since the great Korean, Si Re Pak won at Sunningdale in 2001, have been won by an Asian. It has been two decades and counting of Asian dominance, many would say glory.

Yani Tseng Chinese Taipei, Jeong Jang, Jiyai Shin, Inbee Park, In-Kyung Kim all from South Korea, Ariya Jutanugarn Thailand are all names that have won this championship before this year.

The early days of the Women's British Open were dominated by British and American women, but it was Japanese legend Ayako Okamoto who paved the way for Asians in 1984 winning by a record 11 shots at Woburn GC, going on to win 60 titles, before like Se Ri Pak being inducted to the World Golf of Fame.

>>>>>The question "why" is the topic for an entire article, Dame Laura Davies winner of 87 pro titles said recently when asked "It's a cyclical thing" so for now I'll leave it that<<<<

Today, of the top 18 players on the leaderboard, down to England's Lottie Woad T11 -3, 12 are Asian, or of Asian descent.

Only Charley Hull, England, T4 -6, Georgia Hall England, T8 -4, Chiara Tamburlini Swiss, T8 -4, Steph Kyriacou, Aussie, T11 -3,  Lottie Woad and Mimi Rhodes England T11 -3 have any chance of breaking the Asian domination.

FYI>>> Miyu Yamashita who needs to speak through an interpreter, is also the name of a famous Japanese wrestler !
