It's Porsche European Tour week in Germany...full entry list

DP World Tour : Porsche European Tour Entry List

edit ***No Martin Kaymer or Bernhard Langer for the locals to cheer for any more, and the entry list is receiving criticism for a lack of any star power, however this is where golf is at for some events on the DP World Tour these days. However Yannik Paul, Marcel Siem, Nick Bachem and Max Kieffer are lesser known Germans that may provide a lift for the sponsors..

The DP World Tour makes its first of two trips this season to Germany as Green Eagle Golf Courses plays host to the 40th staging of the Porsche European Open. Here are your five things to know.

Porsche European Open has become a recent home for first-time winners

Samooja defends at scene of maiden win

Kalle Samooja became the fourth first-time winner in the last five editions of this event 12 months ago as he shot a course-record eight-under 64 on the Porsche Nord Course to win by two shots. The Finn started the day seven shots off the lead but produced eight birdies on his last 13 holes, including back-to-back gains at the 17th and 18th to set the clubhouse target at six under. The 2018 Challenge Tour graduate then had a two-year wait while the late starters struggled to bridge the gap to that score before his breakthrough triumph was confirmed. What made his victory more remarkable was that he became just the third player to have won a tournament while shooting one sub-par round. His victory also ended the run of English winners on German soil and secured him a spot at last year’s U.S. Open via the European Qualifying Series – something which is also on offer this week.

U.S. Open qualifying series concludes

As was the case last year, the four-event U.S. Open Qualifying Series reaches its conclusion at the Porsche European Open. At the end of this week, the top two aggregate points earners from the mini order of merit, who are not otherwise exempt, will secure their spots into the field for the third Major Championship of the year at The Los Angeles Country Club from June 15-18. With Adrian Meronk, who leads the standings, already exempt, Romain Langasque and Simon Forsström currently occupy the two qualifying spots and will be looking to seal the deal with a good performance in Germany.

German champions bidding for home victory

Hopes are high for a first home winner of this event since its move to Germany in 2015. In fact, not since Bernhard Langer in 1995 has a German won this event. But with Marcel SiemYannik PaulMaximilian Kieffer and Nick Bachem – who have all won on the DP World Tour in the last nine months – are in action this week and aiming to continue what has been a stellar spell for the country. Last month, Nick Bachem became the last first-time winner from German as he won by four strokes at the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa, in just his 12th start on the DP World Tour since earning his card at Qualifying School last year. “I’m really looking forward to the event, the fans and the atmosphere,” said the 23-year-old who is making his tournament debut. “The Porsche Nord Course is a big challenge, but I think we German golfers have recently shown that we are always a force to be reckoned with. The spectators can look forward to four great days."

Anniversary affair

The Porsche European is celebrating its milestone 40th edition this week in what it is also the 75th anniversary of Porsche as a brand. Before Porsche came on board as title sponsor eight years ago after a six-year absence, the event had been held in the UK. A host of European greats including Sir Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle and Langer have won this event which first became part of the DP World Tour schedule in 1978. With a host of Ryder Cup contenders, including Victor Perez and Robert MacIntyre among others in the field this week, who will have their name engraved on the trophy come Sunday?

Porsche lead the way

Year in, year out, the stars of the DP World Tour are lured by the prospect of sitting behind the steering wheel of the Leader’s Car, where at the end of each round the player who tops the leaderboard earns the right to drive the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. This year, the Porsche that is made available for the leader to travel to and from the venue on each respective day has been inspired by the huge challenge the Porsche Nord Course poses the professionals. Based on the course’s unofficial moniker ‘The Green Monster’, the Leader’s Car will shimmer in green in 2023. Porsche will also provide a 30-vehicle shuttle service for all the players. The whole fleet is electric and consists of models of the fully electric Porsche Taycan and the Porsche Panamera Hybrid.

It's Larrazabal again, this time in Holland...final results

DP World Tour : KLM Open Results

Pablo Larrazábal secured his second DP World Tour victory in three starts and ninth in total after producing a big finish to win the 2023 KLM Open by two shots.

Pablo Larrazábal wins again after fabulous finish at KLM Open

The Spaniard saw his overnight lead evaporate in the early stages of Sunday's fourth round but he recovered with a series of birdies to sit in a five-way tie at the top after 12 holes.

And he finished with a flourish, birdieing the 15th, 17th and 18th to sign for a closing 69 and finish the tournament on 13 under par.

Larrazábal, who came into the week fresh from playing four rounds at last week's US PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, now has two victories in 2023, having won the Korea Championship Presented by Genesis in April.

Fellow Spaniard Adrian Otaegui finished alone in second on 11 under after closing his final-round 70 with a birdie.

Rasmus Højgaard and Deon Germishuys were then in a tie for third, one stroke further back.

The win is Larrazábal's first since he turned 40 earlier this month, and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of countryman Miguel Ángel Jiménez by enjoying continued success over the next decade.

He said: "It doesn't matter how fast you run at the beginning, you have to run fast at the end to win the race.

"And that's what I did. What a putt on the last. I tried to make two putts from 20 feet and suddenly I made it.

"I'm so proud of myself and so proud of my team. We struggled big time through Covid but here we are - four wins in the last 15 months. It means too much to me.

"Hopefully I do 20 per cent of what Miguel did in his forties. This is the first win of 40."

Mike Lorenzo-Vera produced a memorable moment at the par-three eighth on Sunday, holing his tee-shot from 158 yards using an eight iron for a stunning ace.

He said: "The thing is, I've been playing golf now for 32 years and I never had any so I don't even think about it.

"Actually my caddie said to me when we started working together 'Oh you've never had any? You're going to have one with me'.

"Three weeks after, it proved. So hopefully he's going to tell me the same thing with a trophy one day!"

Pablo Larrazábal hits the front after flawless third round

The Spaniard began the day five shots off the lead but carded five birdies and no bogeys on Moving Day to get to ten under par.

Larrazábal, who is chasing a ninth DP World Tour title just one month on from his last victory at the Korea Championship Presented by Genesis, saved his best until last, producing a stunning par save on the 18th to keep his card clean.

Dane Rasmus Højgaard and Spain's Adrian Otaegui finished the day as Larrazábal's nearest challengers on nine under, with Adrian Meronk, Gavin Green, Todd Clements and Daniel Hillier another shot back in a tie for fourth.

The 40-year-old came into the week fresh from playing four rounds at last week's US PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club and admitted rest will be important ahead of the final round.

He said: "We're going to have to do a lot of good things now. Calm down, hit some balls and practice a little bit.

Spaniard Campillo holds 36 hole lead in Holland....full 36 hole results

DP World Tour. KLM Open Leaderboard

****EDIT ::: With Aaron Cockerill spending down time with wife Chelsea and new daughter Addison prior to his invitation to play the RBC Canadian Open at Oakville CC this week's stop in Holland sees Jorge Campillo holds a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the 2023 KLM Open after following up Thursday's stunning 63 with a battling 71 in tougher conditions on day two.

Jorge Campillo opens up commanding lead in Cromvoirt

The Spaniard put in a patient performance on Friday afternoon, carding two birdies and a single bogey to head into the weekend on ten under par.

Italy's Renato Paratore was alone in second place on eight under after finishing his round with a hat-trick of birdies to sign for a second successive 68.

New Zealand's Daniel Hillier was another shot back in third, one ahead of the group containing England's Marcus Armitage, Spaniards Adrian Otaegui and Alejandro del Rey, and Swede Marcus Kinhult.

Campillo, who claimed his third DP World Tour title at the Magical Kenya Open Presented by Absa in March, said: "It was a solid round. Obviously it wasn't even close to yesterday's round but I played solid.

"OK off the tee, my irons were solid. I didn't hit it as close as yesterday or make any of those mid-range putts but overall it was a good round.

"The course is playing a little tricky, the greens don't have much grass on so it's hard for the ball to roll good.

"So it's a tricky golf course right now.

Padraig Harrington in action at the Champions Tour Senior PGA Championship

Although he has now won 31 titles world wide, to be honest he disappeared into golf's vast wilderness for year's after those 2 season's at the top, always tinkering with his swing, always a legend in Europe and at home in Ireland.

He was given the great honour of captaining the 2020 European Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits after a career long association with the team.

His 50th birthday, as it has for so many, gave him a new lease on life as a rookie on the Senior Circuit, or PGA Tour Champions in 2022 back amongst his peers, all the young guns gone as weekly opponents, and he has never looked back, winning the US Senior Open that year from Steve Stricker, another who has benefitted from joining this tour.

Harrington leads second Major of the season, Kitchen Aid is the sponsor of the Senior PGA Championship. His course record -8 64 is 2 shots clear.

England's Harry Hall's putting masterclass at the Colonial.. live scoreboard

PGA Tour : Charles Schwab Challenge Leaderboard

I'd need to check the history books to see if the great Ben Hogan ever shot a 62 on his beloved Colonial course in Fort Worth Texas, but the taciturn old Master would have tipped his cap to England's Harry Hall playing  his rookie year on the PGA Tour, and for the first time at Colonial.

Harry Hall hitting a shot

Harry Hall joined the PGA Tour this year after three years on DP World Tour

Hall used only 22 putts to lead this edition of the Charles Schwab Challenge by 4 shots with -8 62.

Tom Hoge who lives in Fort Worth is 2nd -4 66. All the Texans on Tour continue to support the Colonial, in part an homage to their legend.

Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns who were the final pairing last year, with Burns the winner, were in a group of 15 who shot -3 67's.

The lone Canadian this week Nick Taylor, is flirting with the cut T68 +1 71.

Dutch Open scoreboard..Campillo leads by 3

DP World Tour : 2023 KLM Open Leaderboard

Jorge Campillo produced a brilliant birdie blitz to lead by three shots after the first round of the 2023 KLM Open.

The three-time DP World Tour champion carded ten birdies and a solitary bogey in a sensational opening 63 to reach nine under par.

Having started at the tenth tee on Thursday morning, Campillo reeled off four successive birdies from the 11th and picked up further shots on the 16th, 18th and first before his only bogey arrived at the second.

He then finished with a flourish, taking advantage of the front nine's two par threes - the sixth and eighth - and closing his round with a birdie on the ninth.

Andy Sullivan, Joël Stalter and Pablo Larrazábal were Campillo's nearest challengers on six under after their 66s.

Home favourite Joost Luiten was in the large group another shot back alongside Englishmen Dale Whitnell and John Parry, Spaniards Alejandro del Rey and Adrian Otaegui, India's Shubhankar Sharma and Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Campillo made a lightning-quick start, following up close-range birdies at the 11th and 12th with another from 19 feet on the par-three 13th.

He then made it four in a row from inside five feet at the 14th before breaking the run with a par on the 15th.

The 36-year-old then converted birdie putts from around 15 feet at the 16th and 18th to reach the turn in 30 blows.

After beginning his back nine with a birdie from seven feet at the first, Campillo dropped his only shot of the day on the next hole.

But he recovered with a birdie on the par-three sixth before draining a monster birdie putt at the eighth and closing his round with another gain on the ninth.

Campillo said: "I played solid really. I hit it great, hit the driver fairly well, missed a few fairways here and there but hit great iron shots and only made one bogey.

"I was 30 feet from birdie but hit it 60 feet past the hole - but overall I played really solid.

"I keep doing the same things. I’m hitting my irons really well, the driver is a little inconsistent but on this golf course, it lets you play from off the fairway as well.

"I putted great today, which I didn’t do in Belgium, so it was a nice day."

Jorge Campillo opens up commanding lead in Cromvoirt

Conners falters, Koepka wins 5th major..Final results PGA Championship

 PGA Championship Leaderboard

In hindsight, Oak Hill GC came out a winner, Brooks Koepka came out the champion.

The difficult tree lined, undulating, tight course, in the posh suburbs of Rochester gave up only 9 strokes to par over 72 holes. Only 11 players broke par. At par 70, it played to 73.11 over the first 3 rounds, and 70.6 on Sunday.

" It's really hard to play 4 rounds under par, and if you do you are usually holding a trophy at the end. If I had done that, that's where I would be this afternoon, instead of going home with second.'' the words of Scottie Scheffler 67 68 73 65 -7.

Those words could have been echoed by many others, including Corey Conners who was T2 going into the final round 67 68 70 -5 but after 3 bogey's on his front 9 and 4 more coming home, his final round +5 75 dropped him 10 spots to a T12 E.

Brooks Koepka edges out Viktor Hovland to win US PGA Championship

Brooks Koepka opened with a ho hum +2 72, but when the going was at it's toughest on Friday and Saturday he was 7 shots better than the field each day with 66, 66 to pave the way for his 5th major title. 72 66 66 67 -9.

However the brillance of the 25 year old Norweigan Viktor Hovland, who I've been broadcasting and writing about since he was a teen, made it a match over the final 18 holes.

Koepka was running away after 3 birdies in his first 4 holes, But the Norweigan kept it close with birdies to the American's bogey's until the pivotal 16th. His drive found the same fairway bunker that Connors made a double out of on Saturday.

His 9 iron came out thin and buried in the sod face of the bunker. The resulting double bogey 6 to Koepka's birdie 3 was the turning point.

Prize Money

$17,000,000 2nd highest major, US Open was $17.5

Brooks Koepka wins,  72 66 66 67 -9 worth $3,150,000 another major (5th) for the LIV renegade who also led the Masters after 3 rounds in April, before faltering on Sunday, letting Jon Rahm in.

While we were rained out until 1pm on this Saturday May 24 long weekend here in Toronto, just miles to our south in Rochester, the pros at this PGA Championship were out in the same system and their scores on this tough Oak Hill GC reflected it. Brooks Koepka was the best of the bunch, his -4 66 has him in the lead by a shot at -6.

Victor Hovland and Corey Conners managed the conditions well with E 70's -5 total and only a diabloical lie in the fairway bunker at the par4 16th leading to a double bogey 6 kept the brilliant Canadian from joining the LIV renegade atop the board.

Out in a 1 birdie, all par 34, back in all pars, 1 birdie at 15 and the double at the 16th, 36, Corey will be in the penultimate pairing with DeChambeau at 2.20 on Sunday with a glittering chance to join fellow Canadians, Mike Weir, Brooke Henderson as a major winner.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The start of the 105th PGA Championship has been delayed due to frost.

The PGA Championship, contested at Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course, was scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. ET Thursday. The PGA of America did not announce when play would begin, only that tee times would start 75 minutes after practice facilities open.
