WGC : Dell Technologies Match Play Leaderboard
Nobody, apart from the players, are happier than NBC with the ratings prospect of the 2 of the worlds players on a collision course for this Sunday afternoon. Rory McIlroy (3) and Scottie Scheffler (1) are on opposite sides of the semi finals this morning.
There have been some well documented duds at this event over the years and with only 4 players left, all the action of the previous rounds is gone for TV to cover.
For example 2009 Geoff Ogilvy/ Paul Casey final with Stewart Cink / Ross Fisher Sunday had the TV exec's cringing with all due respect to those fine players. I remember Judy Rankin doing an all but tearful greenside interview with Tiger one year when he bowed out in the quarter finals.
Quarterfinals
Mac Hughes lost 3&2 to Sam Burns after being 2 up after 2 holes, Burns evened it on 4 and 5. Burns was 2up after 10, Mac cut that in half at 12, but when he made a bogey at15, Burns was up 2 with 3 to play, and closed it out with the birdie on 16.
Scottie Scheffler beat Jason Day 2&1 playing his last 9 in -6.
Rory McIlroy beat Xander Schauffele 1 up when he almost drove the green again at 18 for the deciding birdie in a very close match.
Cameron Young beat Kurt Kitayama 1up in another tight match, and he is the dark horse today. He drives it as long as Rory.
