PGA Tour: WM Phoenix Open final Sunday leaderboard here.
Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin forced their way onto the PGA Tour highlight packages with more of the spectacular play they've been producing all week at the beer charged WM Phoenix Open.
The site of mainly young men, many of them local ASU college students lining the fairways and of course at the famous 20,000 seat par 3 16th stadium hole, hoisting the beers they'd been scoffing from as early as 10am, aloft with drunken shouts of 'get in the hole" accompanying most every shot is not for the traditionalist.
I looked up prices that range from $9 - $13 for a beer/wine just $10 for a cocktail and here are the commemorative cups all beers at the 16th will be poured into for the first time this year after the fans covered the green in cans after Sam Ryder holed in one last year.
Taylor 69 66 67, -11 will play today in the final pairing with Scottie Scheffler -13, and Jon Rahm -11.
On Saturday he was up early to finish his second round and post -2 69, then went out in the glorious sunshine to shoot a -4 67 with some spectacular shot making.
In typical Canadian understatement, this is how he summed up his day. "I drove it pretty nice but made a lot of critical putts on that front nine, I made another nice putt on 17 then took advantage of a great drive on 18 for another birdie there, I drove it really well, kept it in play and made some nice putts.
I really can't get wrapped up to what Jon and Scottie are doing, they're obviously great players. I've been in the underdog role before, I just will concentrate on what I'm doing, just keep my head down, keep playing"
Remember his last win was the 2020 Pebble Beach Pro Am, so when Nick is swinging it like he is now he can beat the best .
Adam Hadwin brought the buzzed up crowd at the 16th out of their seats with the closest tee shot for a hole in one, just stopping 1'5'' away.
Remember he just played 10 holes on Friday, so to get back out early yesterday and finish with a bogey free -5 66 to tie for the lead was really strong, especially since he played well enough today paired with big Jon Rahm who went to college in Arizona.
He started with a bogey, but settled in all pars +1 36, but his rollercoaster back nine 3 birdies, 2 bogey's and 4 pars 35 was how his card reads.
He finished with E 71 -10 and will play in the penultimate pairing with Jordan Spieth -10 and England's explosive Tyrrell Hatton -9.
Corey Connors has never been in the mix this week T50 70 72 71 E.
Rory is T28 73 67 70 -3.
Someone in these ideal scoring conditions will shoot 63 today, there are 5 players at -8, 5 more at -9, 2 at -10, 2 at -11 then Scheffler who has been at his best 68 64 68 -13, so I expect a shoot out here and another one just down the road shortly after in Glendale, for the Superbowl Chiefs vs Eagles .
Chiefs by a field goal !!
