Cockerill on the bubble for DP World Tour card.. In Mallorca this week..

Aaron Cockerill was home in Winnipeg last week in +4c hitting balls out of a heated garage to try and stay sharp when he received a call from the DP World Tour informing him he was the last entry to this week's penultimate event the Mallorca Golf Open.

Aaron Cockerill

He has slipped to 110 in DPWTR and that's right on the bubble, although the Tour actually keeps 117 on their list, so this call was timely to say the least. His current status would not get him into Portugal next week, the regular season finale.

He started the year on the Challenge Tour but after a T2 at the Magical Kenya Open and T3 at the ISPS Handa in Spain on the DPWT he has played in 19 events so far.

He credits a new speed training drill he has used in practice for the remarkable turn around in his putting. He leads the Tour in Putts per GIR after ranking 138th last year.  "I practice lagging putts in a series of differing lengths on Tuesday and Wednesday so when I begin play on Thursday I have a good feel for the speed of the greens"

So a good week will wrap up his card for 2023, if not it will be "sweaty palms" time next week. He hasn't made the cut in his last 3 outings. His wife Chelsea who was also his caddie last year is making the trip with him.

In a recent interview on the KNGDOM podcast out of Winnipeg he cited  his week at the Canadian Open. his 2 results mentioned above, a hole in one cash pay out at the Omega European Masters and his invite to the Dunhill Links in that gale force wind as some of his years highlights, being DQ in Denmark for not signing his scorecard, not his best moment.

Follow his scoring here beginning at 1pm local time Thursday. Tee Times
