Connors opens Tour Championship with 67...Prize money explained...live scoreboard

PGA Tour: Tour Championship scoreboard here.

With just one bogey on his card, it was a very steady start to this Tour Championship for Canada's lone representative, Corey Connors, 4 birdies and all the rest pars 67 on this iconic East Lake course in Atlanta.

Remember this convoluted scoring system has a staggered start with the #1 seed in the Fed Ex Championship, Patrick Cantley beginning play at -10 before he hits a shot, and the shot allocation continues down to the #30 ranked player.

At #27 Connors began at -1, so his -3 67 sees him at -4 T17. However to consider how well he played, the lowest score in round 1 was a 65 by Jon Rahm and Billy Horschel, so without the handicapping system, he would just be 2 shots off the lead as opposed to 9 behind with Cantley at -13 in the lead after his 67.

PRIZE MONEY:

Having explained the handicapping system, understand these guys are playing for the majority of the $60m dollar prize fund created in the year long Fed Ex Cup playoffs.

Also every player who finished in the top 150 in the Fed Ex Cup race gets a pay out without even playing this week, so KH Lee who finished #31 gets 200,000.

Canadians Michael Gligic at #150 gets $70,000, Nick Taylor at #141 $70,000, Adam Hadwin #103, $101,000, Roger Sloan #96 $105,000 Mac Hughes #67 $140,000

Winner get $15m

2nd  $5m

3rd  $4m

4th  $3m

5th  $2,5

30th  $395,000
