Team format makes Zurich Classic worth watching

PGA Tour Zurich Classic teams http://zurichgolfclassic.com/players/

This week is different on the PGA Tour as it has swung into New Orleans for the Zurich Classic, an event I must admit had it's regular guys and grinders every year, but not much more for the average golf fan. In 2016 they decided to change the format to team play and as a result this year 18 of the world's top 30 are in the field.

It is the only team tournament in the PGA Tour season. It's a 72-hole stroke 2 man team play format with Four-Ball  during the first and third rounds and Foursomes during the second and fourth rounds. There are 80 teams. Following the conclusion of the second round, the field will be cut to the low 35 teams and ties. In case of a tie after 72 holes, there will be a sudden-death playoff using Foursomes  for the first extra hole and Four-ball (best ball) for the second extra hole and alternate each hole thereafter.

Here are some of the featured teams, click my link above for the full list.

Jordan Spieth/ Ryan Palmer
Justin Thomas/Bud Cauley
Sergio Garcia/ Rafael Cabrera Bello
Jon Rahm/Wesley Bryan
Justin Rose /Henrik Stenson  (bookies favourites at 8-1)
Jason Day/ Ryan Ruffels
Bubba Watson/Matt Kuchar
Patrick Reed/Patrick Cantley
Brooks Koepka/ Mark Turnesa
Mac Hughes /Corey Connors
Ben Silverman/ Matt Atkins
David Hearn/ Seamus Power

Mackenzie Hughes and Corey Conners will be paying a unique tribute to the Humboldt Broncos. Inspiration extends beyond the golf course..@MacHughesGolf and @coreconn are choosing "Big League" as their walk-up song for the @Zurich_Classic as a tribute to the @HumboldtBroncos.

It all gets underway tomorrow.
