LPGA Tour Hugel-JTBC LA Open leaderboard http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/hugel-jtbc-la-open/leaderboard
Golf as all of us mortals know is an extremely difficult frustrating game to play, and in many ways it's the same for the pros. You can never master the sport, just strive to get better, more consistent.
Last week in windy wet Hawaii, Brooke Henderson was the best of the bunch at the Lotte Championship, winning her 6th pro title at the tender age of 20 to put her right on track to beat the Canadian mark of eight wins, held by Sandra Post, Mike Weir, and the late George Knudson.
This week with rounds of 70 79 +7 she and her pals Maude Aimee LeBlanc (75 75 +8), and Alena Sharp (74 73 +5) have all missed the cut. Henderson is likely off to San Francisco where she will play next week then off to Dallas before returning to little Smiths Falls for a week off and an appearance in a charity event in Ottawa. Anne Catherine Tanguay was on her way home as well after an opening 76 but she recovered with a brilliant 67 +1 T28 and will carry the flag this weekend.
So while Brooke and her sister are sampling the sights of San Fran, Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn has the lead at this Korean sponsored Hugel- JTBC LA Open with rounds of 68 66 -8, a shot ahead of American Marina Alex 67 68 -7.
With a huge LA based Korean community cheering them on, So Yeon Ryu -6, Eun-Hee Ji -5 and Inbee Park -5 are all lurking with the weekend ahead.
When you think of the success of all these very hungry young South Korean players, most of whom have moved to America, then you look at all the young women their age who live under the brutal dictatorship of Kim Jong Un in North Korea who are not allowed to leave or play golf, it is staggering.
It reminds me of Berlin before the wall came down back in 1989.
