Freezing weather delays play in Phoenix..Westwood misses the cut in Qatar

Round 2 is in the books in Qatar where the wind has gone down a bit and as a result so have the scores, and it's Austrian veteran Markus Brier (66) playing on a sponsor's exemption who leads a tightly packed leader board by a shot at -7. More on that and Lee Westwood in a minute..

Meanwhile in the frigid desert of Phoenix they are hoping to resume round 1 at 1230pm et after enduring a 4 hour frost delay on Thursday.. The temperature Thursday never topped 46 degrees. Still, the 51-year-old Tom  Lehman managed to fire a 65 that left him tied with Bill Haas, Tom Gillis and Jason Bohn for the lead.

Our own Stephen Ames, never a big fan of cold weather is 5 shots back after his -2 70 and he may well not play again until Saturday as he is in the late wave today.

This from the pgatour.com..Everyone who played in the "morning" wave was able to complete his round. The farthest anyone got in the afternoon half of the draw was nine holes and the final threesomes to tee off had played just two when play was suspended at 6:02 p.m. local (8:02 ET).

Overnight temperatures dipped into the mid-20s, so tournament officials have opted to resume the first round at 10:30 a.m. MT (12:30 p.m. ET).
Once the first round has been completed, the second round will resume as quickly as possible so there will be a very short turnaround for some players. And the possibility exists that some of the players who managed to complete the first round on Thursday might not play at all today.

Weeekend weather is scheduled to warm back up into the 70's, so we may well have a 36 hole Sunday...

Here is the T10 leader board in Qatar where perhaps the story is that the big boys are well behind, in fact Lee Westwood at +4 73,75 and Paul Casey +5 74,75 have missed the cut  leaving Martin Kaymer with a chance to become #1 in the world, although he needs to finish 1st or 2nd and he is 10 shots back..

Martin Kaymer +3 77,70, Steve Sticker +3 76,71, Darren Clarke +3 78,69 and Sergio Garcia +2 73 73 have all just scraped in.
