Weather as of 1200hrs local time : 14*c Mostly sunny and very windy 15-35mph WSW with gusts to 45mph later in the afternoon.  Chance of a shower

Note >>> A Yellow Weather warning has been issued. The BBC weather shows the wind from Storm Amy increasing with showers around 330 local and really blowing hard overnight into Saturday morning. Yellow warnings mean potential bad weather.

Storm Amy is battering Scotland's North and West coasts now and will spread across much of the UK including St Andrews with damaging winds gusting up to 100kph in some areas. 

The early wave this morning are not affected however the late wave will be hit mid afternoon and it will blow all night until around 7am, with a lull until  it picks up again Saturday afternoon. 

Cancellations include rugby matches, the Glasgow Marathon, ferries in the north as well as train services.

The lead as of 630am edt which is 1130am local time in St Andrews is at -10 with everyone now in play.

***** England's Nathan Kimsey has played the front nine on the Old Course in 28, birdies on 8 straight holes 2-9. He also birdied the 10th, before his run of 9 straight birdies ended with a bogey 4 on the par 3 11th. 

*****This ties the PGA Tour record of 9 straight set by Mark Calcavecchia and then Kevin Chappell.

Aaron Cockerill

Canada's Aaron Cockerill was off the 1st tee on the Old Course early this morning where he posted -2 70 to stand T105 (72 71 -2). 

On Saturday which looks to be the worst of the Storm Amy weather he is scheduled to play Carnoustie before the 54 hole cut is made.

note 2.55pm local time  The forecast for Friday to Sunday at St Andrews reads: "Bright morning Friday then becoming wet and very windy in afternoon and overnight. Remaining very windy Saturday with heavy rain turning more showery. Becoming drier Sunday with winds easing."
