PGA Tour : BMW Championship Results
" Right now I just want to go and smash up my clubs" sums up how Scotland's best golfer Robert "Bob" MacIntyre felt after dominating the final PGA Tour playoff, the BMW Championship at Cave Valley GC in Baltimore before blowing his 4 shot lead on Sunday.
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre really struggled with his driver on Sunday
His brilliant 62 64 68 -16 saw him start play 4 shots clear of Scheffler in the final pairing.
However bogeys at #1,#2 #5 were all Scheffler needed to take the lead by the 7th and although he wasn't brilliant his -3 67 capped by a long fortunate chip in at the 17th, he was 6 shots better than the floundering Scot, who managed just one birdie in his +3 73.
To be kind, the "choke" word hurled by the heckling American fans, who MacIntyre had told to "shush!" on Saturday would be unfair considering his recent form which included 3 rounds this week and 2nd at US Open and 7th at the Open Championship, so here was his explanation.
" I got off to a horrific start, I felt great going out there, wasn't even considering going over par to be honest. I just expected to go out there, put the foot down, and perform like I did the last couple of days.
My golf ball was going miles, I don't know why, I need to work that out. I feel like I've hit good shots.
Asked what he needed to improve "Right now I haven't got a clue, I just want to go out and smash up my golf clubs to be honest with you."
On the bright side, the $2,031,615 cheque ensured he has clinched his Ryder Cup spot, a move up 11 places to #9 in Fed Ex Cup rankings, and #8 owgr, only the 3rd Scot to crack the world top 10.
Rory McIlroy T12 -3 and Tommy Fleetwood T4 -10 this week.
