LPGA : CPKC Women's Open
Tee Times
Hall of Famer Lydia Ko has done it all in the women's game, including winning the 2012 Canadian Open as a 15 year old, going on to win it in 2013 and 2015.
On opening day at this 2025 CPKC sponsored version another relatively unknown to the general public who have been used to Brooke Henderson now 27, on the leaderboard, another of team Canada's "NextGen" Aphrodite Deng quietly went out and took the Mississauga GC apart with a display of ball striking beyond her years, and only 26 putts to shoot -5 65 to take the clubhouse lead.
Japan's Aki Iwai topped that with a late wave -7 64 to end the day with a 2 shot lead. She won last week in Portland and was right in the top 10 at the Women's British Open at Royal Porthcawl in Wales where another Japanese star Miyu Yamashita at 4'10" was the winner in what was dubbed the Asian Invasion with 11 women of Asian descent in the top 15.
Deng won the US Junior Girls Championship I watched earlier this year, amongst her other titles, lives now in Florida out of TPC Sawgrass, where she won the Nelly Invitational prompting the former world #1 to say about the current LPGA "all of them are super young, coming in and playing well"
Like Yamashita, Deng is just a small slight school girl, until she steps on the tee and as her Mississauga Club champion/ caddy Matt Sim said " she just flushes it, almost everything is in the middle of the face"
Kang, Lopez, Thitikul and Maguire joined Dent T2.
As for Brooke, she opened with an average E 71 T38 seven shots off the lead.
