Olympic Games Men's Golf Competition..The Stage set for Sunday Showdown

Olympic Games : Mens Golf Competition Leaderboard

In Agatha Christie's great mystery " Murder on the Orient Express" you will remember there were at least 12 possible suspects for her great detective Hercule Poirot to unravel for us, which kept the suspense going right until the end...

Today in Paris, this Olympic Games Men's Golf Competition is all set, with as many as ten of the world's best players in contention on the stage of Le National for Gold, Silver and Bronze and more importantly a place in the history books on their resume.

Schauffele-2165112787

Xander Schauffele who has dominated the game since the Masters, with nothing but top 10's, the PGA Championship, the Open, and now a chance to win back to back gold medals.

He is tied (68) at -14 with LIV turncoat Jon Rahm (66) for the lead while Tommy Fleetwood (69) is just a shot behind  at -13.

Next we must consider the Danish star Nicolai Hojgaard who got on a roll and tied the course record his twin brother Rasmus set, with a bogey free -10 62 to begin play at T4 -11 with Japanese legend Hideki Matsuyama (71) -11.

Then arriving in consideration late, Rory McIlroy cleaned up his game for a bogey free 66 T6 -10 along with none other than Scottie Scheffler (67) T6 -10 and who could bet against either of these two making the Sunday run.

I also suggest you consider Tom Kim the brilliant young Korean T6 69 -10 and Belgian Thomas Detry who has already posted a 63 this week, at T6 69 -10.

Lurking at -9 after a Saturday 66 is the Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg T10, worth a flutter as the longshot in my opinion and here with my heart not my head I include Canada's steady Corey Conners T10 -9 68 69 69....

So there you have it, the stage is set with Schauffelle as the odds on favourite to cap a remarkable season, and his playoffs have not even begun...
